I bought it unseen and had it delivered on a lowloader. Dodgy seller who I found out after was a scrap metal collector.
No good usable parts. No history and logbook is an older one. He says he will send a new one in due course. I told him to keep it as I am rejecting the car.

Probably me, a couple of years ago advertised a 1.6 Fsi with 63k miles, a man in his mid seventies called & came down from York to buy it, insisting that He will buy it if I took his black tdi in part exchange, allowed a few hundred for his tdi without a good look/a test drive. but noticed a cracked rear bumper, once He left ( very quickly saying He was in a rush ) brought the car into my work shop to take the bumper off, only to find ,the car had been hit so hard in the back that the fiber glass box in the back had shattered, in fact the rear bumper bar was almost inside the box, however I repaired it, replacing all the parts & still made a profit.
by the way the guy still owes me a £100 from the deal, He was meant to wire it once He got home.
Its been over 2 years, but I am optimistic that He will pay me one day

I nice bought a 90 with a fecked DMF and wishbones and the worst gearbox ever. But it’s now a lovely Yellow CS with a billet turbo and 6 speed. ( it was cheap tho’ lol)

Actually I bought a red rattle can painted red 75, I still can’t bear to look at it. Starts and drives fine but grim to look at. Really grim

Did you carry out a car check on this before you bought it?
In the cars defence, It doesn't take much to write off any car now especially an aluminium bodied 20 year old car. The owners, (22) is a bit much but i once bought a 4 year old car with 5 previous owners (3 from same family though). As long as the car is complete and is a runner and you are happy with the price you paid who really cares.
There are only a handful of A2s' out there that are going to be highly collectable in the future, and they are squirrelled away somewhere in a high security oxygen tent prison, only to be pushed out for special occasions.
Most of us who buy these fun, frugal and very well built funky cars actually drive them, and it looks like you have a nice colour to start with.
The pictures don't show much damage with nice even shut lines and no nasty bodywork dents.
Remember, when life gives you lemons make lemonade.
Engine upgrade, long term project or just a reliable runabout (FSI??) either way the car is a survivor, If you decide to keep it.

No as bought from a trader I expected not the best put saw potential.
I knew as a trader they would have to disclose anything serious like clocking or Cat C/D. (looks like I was wrong)
I did a car check once it arrived because the only paperwork left on the seat was the green slip of the logbook which when I went to check it on DVLA it said it wasn't valid.
I then tried calling and messaging seller but when he didn't answer I checked it out.
I still don't know if it is stolen or scrapped as he says he is waiting for the logbook from previous owner.
At this point in time I have moved it into the back of my drive and notified the Police, Trading Standards, Action Fraud and the EPA who are investigating as we speak.
To me it looks like it has either been stolen or scrapped due to the lack of logbook, stereo missing and plugs cut off, 1 key that starts it but the fob doesn't work, battery is a Ford one not fitted as too big and won't fit in the space, centre caps missing and the panel under the steering wheel is broken just dangling.
The EPA are involved as I they aren't a licensed trader or scrap metal collector.
I didn't know that a car could be written off twice....

Having been turned over by nasty traders in the past, you have my sympathy. However the first must is check the registration number on the MOT checker and see what is said there. That would give you a clue. It looks to me that you may well not have title to your "thing", what does the invoice look like?

I think from the tale as told, legality doesn't enter into it. The trader obviously isn't kosher.
