Will a 2.3 VR5 engine fit in the A2.

Interesting to see that nobody ever replied to this message!

I guess that if you can get a dickhead in an A2 forum then you can probably even get a 2.3 VR5 engine under an a2 bonnet!
 
Very harsh - I was toying with the idea of a 1.8T, until I realised that I'd also have to retro-fit quattro to be able to actually USE the power!

A friend of mine has a V5 golf and it costs him a fortune to run - his local VW mechanic apparently says that he could virtually live on the money he makes repairing V5s and nothing else - they seem to have more than their fair share of problems, don't know what exactly. They do sound cool though, like a proper 80s quattro

Agree, a bit harsh.

In my mis-spent youth I used to navigate for a friend who rallied in a plain looking Ford Popular. Invariably, at the rallies people would snigger at his car which was looking rather dated even then. That is, until he lifted the bonnet. I can't remember what was there but it was something like a V6 or V8 - a unique one-off. You should have seen the look on these people's faces. Naturally the brakes had been upgraded to disks and the suspension improved.

But even my friend eventually tired of the remarks and bought himself a Ford Escort body shell which he stiffened up, added rally brakes and suspension and moved across the "beast" of an engine. Complete with suitable paint job and decals it looked the part.

I Think i would rather have kept the Ford Popular just imagine the shock on peoples faces
when u pull away from them , the words " just jealous" come to mind , i still get people snigger
at me at work when they see me in my A2 one bloke takes the miss out of it
and calls it a sandwich box , guess what he drives a Peogeot 405 LOL !!!!
 
Anything can be made to fit, but the reality is it would be a very labour intensive project, several thousand pounds or more in labour alone I'd imagine.
 
I wouldnt mind buying an older cheap A2 with a dead engine and doing something like this. Maybe not the 2.3 engine though. Some nice big brakes, KONI's, and a remap.
It would be a true wolf in sheeps clothing, nothing better than a big surprise for certain people who think "oh look a poor mans Audi"

I think if i buy a TT again in the future, i may try and look for a cheap A2 and modify it for the wife :D (well me) :D
 
If I won the lottery and money was no object a 4.2 biturbo 4wd (RS6) setup would have to be the ultimate project!!! I reckon you'd be able to wheelie that! :)
 
would you not have to cut and re weld the floor so you can fit the drive shaft for the rear wheels to fit quattro? The old corrado engines fit in VW polo's. Dont think you d corner to well with all the extra weight upfront.
 
Hi Guys,

As you have said, any engine will fit in any car; If you are prepared to go far enough!

A mate of mine is in the process of putting an Audi 4.2 V8 with a pair of Turbos into a caddy van. The chassis work is done........

That (so far unique) A2 1.8T will be finished within this spring already. Theoretical top speed is about 150 mph. 0-60 well :) . Front axle load won't exceed specs of the 1.4 TDIs but additional weight is needed in the boot to compensate for the lift. A 6-speed gearbox and a bigger fuel tank has been implanted as well as large performance disk brakes all around.
