OK, I know the you asked this question in 2005, but it seemed a suitable post ;-) to mention a BBC News report today about police crackdown on tinted windows:

"In Manchester, more than 2,000 fixed penalty notices have been issued to drivers of cars with excessively tinted windows since October 2006."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6707873.stm

Yes it does state what the law demands: "The law states front windows must allow 70% of light through; the front windscreen 75%"

Actually I noticed recently that the rear window appears to be tinted as standard or is that a illussion due to the flat angle?

Yes the rear is tinted. If you look on the glass where the audi stamp is it says tinted or clear. The boot lid on mine is quite dark standard the rest of the glass was only slighty tinted so i got the rear sides tinted

old question I know - new thought for me

I fancy having the rear windows and quarter lights tinted dark to match the open sky, I believe this is permissable withing the current laws (I have a new CRV that has "privacy glass to the rear") I do not think I want to mess with the front (may change my mind). I know many of you have done this can I have your thoughts / experiences , generally and with police if applicable and an idea of cost ?
Cheers

Pentagon is your best bet: http://www.pentagonglasstech.com/

They are approved by Audi and do a product called Supaglass that makes entry to a thief virtually impossible, see the videos on their page.

I have Supaglass on Tank, 30% on the rear from the B pillar back and 45% on the front, which is strictly speaking below the standards set, but is ignored by the police, as they can quite clearly see in.

Pentagon will represent you if the police take action and will change the tint if needed too.

It isn;t the cheapest around (£200 for the B pillar back, but it is the best.

Cheers,

Mike
