Hi folks,

anyone had to have a windscreen replaced yet? I've just got a stone chip in the top right hand corner - about 3mm diameter [xx(]- is it possible to fix without replacing whole screen?

Also question for Fido and other 1.2 TDI owners - is the glass thinner on this model than on 1.4 / 1.6 models? Do you have to order it speccially?

Regards

I had my back window replaced it took 3 weeks because even the audi importer in the Netherlands had it in stock.
I dont know about the front screen.
You could also go to another glassfitter you have lots of them in England they order the screen than for you and they guarantee that they are cheaper than the dealer.
With a model like the audi it cannot be another brand *(immitation) like they do for golfs or astra s as the car is to rare.

A company like solaglass or autowindscreens can fix and repair small stone chips, as a friend of mine had a stone chip fixed by one of them, not sure of prices sorry :)

P.S. they can replace the entire windscreen if needed, but as pointed out the a2 has an odd shape window so there may be a few days wait for one. Hope this helps

I'm on about my 3rd largish windscreen chip and haven't had the screen replaced yet...

The first two chips, I went to Halfords and bought their windscreen self repair kit - and it was quite effective and has postponed having to get the whole thing replaced.

I'm on my second screen, (kids throwing stones from a bridge).

If its cracked (spider web style) then it needs to be replaced as a repair cannot be done.

If its only chiped they can repair it.

I used AutoGlass here in the UK as it is linked to my insurance only cost £50 UK. (My policy lets me have 1 screen a year)

Cost depends on your insurance we have had two ships in the last two years (neither on the A2) - the first cost us £50 excess for a new screen as it was not repaiarable, the second was repaired free (insurance covered it with no excess). Repair was not invisible but we had already done the deal to trade the car so I was not worried. General rule is less than the size of a pound coin and not in the 300(?)mm band centred on the steering wheel.

Mine was replaced in the summer after a stone chip truned into a large crack! Autoglass did it at home and it is a GENUINE Audi part which is a surprise these days.

Thanx guys, have just covered it with a small patch of metal tape till i get it fixed - to keep condensation and sunlight out

The 1.2´s windows are exactly the same as the normal A2´s... i think it would be too expensive to make special windows just for this one model... (as far as I know, of all the 50000 A2s sold last year, only 1000 were 1.2´s....)

Bye, Frido.
