Hi there, does anyone know if the painted cover on the wing mirror can be unclipped for repainting or does the whole mirror have to come off?

cheers

it's not a wing mirror, it's a door mirror.

You essentially take the mirror housing apart. So no, it doesn't unclip, but no, you don't have to remove the entire mirror assembly, either.

Unscrew the 2 Tx20 underneath, remove the glass, remove the remaining tx10 and tx20 screws, remove the painted housing. The motor remains mounted to the mount, which is screwed to the door frame.

This is available in detail elsewhere on the forum.

A2 Mirror removal

Hi Bret and Lamby,

I read your responses to the question about mirror removal, thanks for the advice, and Lamby well the picture walk through on mirror removal is awesome, I'm going to try this this evening and see about fitting a heated mirror to my nearside. If only there was as easy a guide to doing everything on your our cars as this!

Cheers

I was trying to make my mirrors fold in and I guess nobody else has done so since the car was built.
The drivers mirror folded and works well now after some WD40.
The passengers mirror folded but also pulled the trim from its mount out slightly from the door.
Unfortunately Lamby's website and guide are gone. Can anyone explain how to get at the mounting screws?
I think they just need to be tightened.
Is it a huge amount of work to remove the interior black plastic triangle to get at the bolts or is it a nightmare of a job??

I think that just clips off you could try taking the door card off first if that makes it any easier that is just three torq's screws t20's or 25's not sure off the top my head, 2 screws where the pull handle is (from under the handle) and one behind the tweeter grill that just pops off with small screwdriver then if you have a look under the door card you'll see a small half moon hole that you can just get you finger in so you can pull it outwards and then just work your way around the card till its loose then push it upwards to release it of the weather seal at the top
