Wishbones Repair or Break?

Local garages are saying they cannot source the oem parts but that they will effect the repair if I get the parts but with absolutely no warranty whatsoever.
Audi are quoting me £857 with oem parts and a warranty on the repairs.
As the car is fifteen years old and done 155k is it really worth spending possibly more than the value of the car on this one repair?
I certainly would not allow a garage to do the work and then not give a warranty.
Maybe it`s time to say goodbye, what do you think?
Are all of our lovely little cars going to be junked because of a parts shortage?

So you consider to junk the car because the garage does not offer a warranty if you bring the (OEM) parts yourself?

Not uncommon find a better garage. WOM automotive in Stoke are worth a shout if you are willing to do a little travel. Certainly wont charge you 800 quid!

May I be as bold as to suggest you find a more customer friendly garage! I think the TRW parts listed above are made by Lemforder which are the original equipment manufacturer. They are the cast items (fitted to older cars) which in most peoples opinion are indeed better than the pressed steel wishbones (Audi economising) you probably have on your car. I have just fitted a pair of these to my car and they are not cheap after market rubbish. They are excellent and the price reflects this (I got mine for just under £100 each). I would advise against buying cheaper versions. there is a thread on here regarding dimensional compatibility of these wishbones in comparison to the cheaper ones, not withstanding the quality of the joints. An indy specialist Audi garage will have no problem fitting them.

If I could find a local reputable garage to repair and warrant the work I would certainly do that with the Lemforder or TRW.

Thank you for that.
Hopefully I will find a decent local garage but I will keep you in mind.
Maybe a holiday up North becons.

There is no reason for me to supply parts, the parts are readily available for the garage to supply and fit, they are just not OEM as far as the garage is concerned even though they are made by the original supplier I am told.

What warranty are you after? They are a solid piece cast iron; nothing will happen to them. It is a 1 hour job to swop them (excluding the bushing).

Do not understand the logic; instead of having the wishbones replaced without warranty, you rather break the car?

Any new parts you buy will have manufacturers warranty usually 12 mths……. so you're covered there, as for the garage covering warranty they should stand by the work they do...……..the worst that will happen is you have to cover the labour to replace any faulty parts but I'm sure you'd get some contribution from the parts manufacturer if you shouted loud enough...…….

As an ex tradesman myself I would expect any reputable firm to warrant any work they carry out wether the parts are supplied by the customer or the firm. However I would not expect them to warrant the part itself if they had not supplied it.
