my 1.4 se petrol ,doesnt have a prob starting when cold but say stop n start when warm doesnt seem to start if that makes sense,if i let engine cool a while then ok,i am due to get belts changed in a couple o days anyway, but wondered if that is the prob thanks

Had same problem with my 2003 tdi and it turned out to be a faulty crankshaft sensor. I'm unsure, however, if this problem can apply to a petrol A2.

Hopefully, those in the know will comment in this thread.

I'll second that, had to replace it on our 1.4 petrol and also did both of them on my A4 - made a big difference to performance and fuel economy to boot.

is the engine light on? if so it could be that your lambda sensor is on its way out.

just had similar issue on 1.4 petrol, turned out to be temp sensor and also throttle alignment issue which just needed cleaning out and resetting

engine management light comes on every now and then may stay on for a day then goes off for a few days weird ,i did notice while trying to turn it over my oil light would come on and start beeping too

i am having my timing belt and clutch done would you advise to have the coolent temp and lambda sensor done at same time ,if so how much roughly

No id get it scanned first. Lambda sensors arnt cheap so no point replacing it if its not that. Also id change the water pump at the same time as the cambelt if you are not already doing so. With the water pump being changed you will need new coolant so if it is the temp sensor id get that done at the same time as it will save on coolant and having to bleed the system twice. Hope that helps.
