Worn out Key Fob buttons?

Just prise out the old one (no need to dismantle the fob

and press in the new one (I use a smooth firm object (the side of a pencil or pen for example) just to get the last section pressed fully home.

Key blade cleaning

Hi guys and girls

I know it is an old thread but this is the closest I found for my little issue.
I have bought this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151435141332?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I have replaced the whole casing and put my old blade instead of the new. The buttons work perfectly, the casing plastic is a bit more grainy than the old one.
But before I did install the old blade, I cleaned the blade with soap and water because the groove was pretty grotty (sweat and dust I presume).

Since then the key does not work when I insert it into the ignition, there is a light flashing on the dash showing a key with the outline of a car.

Did I do wrong when I cleaned the blade? Is there something I need to do to fix that?
It seems bizarre as there is nothing "in" the blade.

All help will be very appreciated.

You need to get a new immobiliser chip and have it programmed.

If you are VERY careful you MIGHT be able to ease the one out of your old key and put it in the new key.

But the problem you are having is due to the immobiliser chip either being missing in your new key or being a used one (they can't be reprogrammed) or even if it has a new one in it you need to get it programmed by Audi, or someone with the right kit (which I have if you are ever over Staines way)

The other option is to just use the front half of the old key fob (the half with the blade in it) and use the other half from the new key.

Have you managed to get the remote locking to work?

Sorry Steve but I am confused

Where is the immobilizer chip? Into the old plastic casing ?

While writing this I opened the old plastic casing and found this:

At the bottom you can see a little tube, I believe it is the immobilizer. Little bit like the chip for the dogs ;)
Lucky, I didn't throw away the old casing.
I will post an update.

Yes,

the glass tube is the immobiliser chip.

You need to swap that to the new key and you should be fine.

But it is a very fragile glass tube so be careful.

Here is what look like the immobilizer:

If anyone is tempted to do the same, be very careful. I cut the old casing with a hot knife because the chip was glued inside the remote.

I have tested the key and it is working.:cool:

I just received my new Pad from china £1 inc shipping:p
The pins where too long causing all 3 buttons to be pressed permanently when fitted.
Got to use my new Dremel I received this Christmas and all fits perfectly now
 
How do the Chinese do it ? - ive ordered a couple of things which were very cheap !. They arrived on time and were of good quality. :)
 
I think these are the kind of pads this thread is talking about, right?
If so, these are cheap - around 1 pound shipped - but make sure you're in absolutely no hurry to get them changed should you order them through here - shipping usually takes long enough to forget you ordered it (which, on the flip side, makes for a rather welcome surprise every time!).
