Wrong fuel causing fault code!?

My car has been at the non-Audi supplying dealer for the last 3 days whilst they change the thermostat and took a look at the "17439 Manifold Change-Over Valve (N136): Setpoint Not Reached" fault code.

They have spent today taking the inlet manifold and throttle body apart and found no visible signs of clogging or worn parts.

They say they have spoken to the local Audi dealer who asked if I use super unleaded or normal 95 RON (I use 95). They say the reason for the fault is because I'm using the wrong fuel in the car and all FSI engines work best with super.

So is this true or just a load of tosh?

From what I understand this is true. I remember reading here somewhere that they are designed to run on higher Ron fuel.

I am a tdi owner, but would it not say in your manual or on the filling cap door what grade to use? I have never looked on a fsi filling cap so not sure.

There will be fsi owners who will confirm this I am sure.

Cheers

David

Thanks for the replies - I'll check the flap when I pick it up tonight.

The cost of replacement isnt' really an issue for now as it's covered under warranty (with 18 months still to go on that)

Hello,

I only ever use V-Power 99 or BP Ultimate 97. Both suit the engine well though I prefer the BP - I'm convinced my FSi loves it!

Well, the warring light came on again today when the dealer was taking it to the body shop to have the damaged bonnet repaired (thats another story:mad:).

Can someone who has a 1.6 FSI do me a favour and check in the fuel flap to see what RON fuel is shown on the label?

The dealer has booked the car in to Audi at their expense and I anticipate an argument over any warranty claim because I've used 95 RON.
