Wrong fuel

I nearly filled the A2 petrol with diesel yesterday. I couldnt see the figures on the pump to see if it was reset from the previous customer, so I stretched across and thought "thats dear, it should be 88.99, not 89.99". That's right I had the diesel pipe in my filler hole ready to squeeze. All the pipes were black and all the nozzles had a shell on them. I always thought the nozzles were different sizes, obviously not. I'm always so careful to select petrol but I was a millisecond away from filling up with diesel. To make matters worse he wouldn't give me my V power key ring which I was told you get when you fill up with V power. No, I didn't need one, but the Grandchildren like them.

Lucky escape there Dick - last time I had a fuel issue (chip fat from a local Carlton Fuels station!) it cost me £250 to have the Tanks tank drained and cleaned!

I'm still waiting on compo from the forecourt, but things should start moving soon - I've just been found in favour of.

Cheers,

Mike

Last time I saw that was a women filling petrol to her boy friend's diesel C-Class! Screaming like mad and yelling on her mobile phone right next to the sign saying you should not use mobiles at the pump...

But I saw on 5th Gear or something on TV, if you put in a few litters of diesel you can simply fill the tank with the right fuel, and just empty the tank on a along steady drive. It sort of worked on an old beat up vauxhall.

For the minority of petrol A2 owners, I can say the new V-power has an even more obvious responsiveness improvement than PowerMax when compared to standard Shell (which is already better than all other brands' standard fuel I've tried, on different cars/motorcycles).

you can get away with diesel in a petrol if you only put one or two liters in it will smoke a bit as diesel is an oil
but if you put petrol in a diesel carDO NOT START THE CAR as it will
knacker up the engine you have to drain the tank
if you have run the car you will need the engine to be perged by a garage

My understanding is the other way round:

1:4 Petrol to Diesel in a traditional diesel - no problem, they will run on almost anything. Indeed this is a short cut to winter diesel in an emergency. In a new common rail NO PETROL AT ALL. The fuel system relies on the diesel to lubricate it, if you put any petrol in then it destroys the lubrication and hence the fuel pumps/valves - do not even start it. My Honda should not even be run on straight bio-diesel.

Diesel to petrol is not advised at all, engine will smoke and eventually stop. Older engines may survive it a little better but modern injection systems probably won't. Imagine what 75 octane petrol would be like - effectively what you get with a 1:4 diesel to petrol mix.

You may get a way with a couple of litres but less risk in the Honda with a 60+ litre tank than in an A2, especially the small tank version. If you want to take the chance keep topping up the tank to dilute it more and more.

One to go for 600!
