Yet another "noise" problem

I have had my first service and have a noise problem.
In first/second gear around 20mph a whiring sound comes from the transmission (it does not happen when clutch is engaged).

I asked them to look at it in the service but they reported back that they trialed a similar A2 (1.4SE Petrol) and had similar noise. They have checked with the Audi data bank and find similar noises but they are not considered a problem.

I have another 18months of warrenty but having sensitive hearing (Musician) I notice it more.

It has to go back in a week for some warrenty work to be sorted out, I feel inclined to ask them to remedy the noise as it may not be major now but when it comes out of warrenty I shall be left with the bill!

How should i approach this, the test technician has witnessed it, do I push to elliminate the sound!

Is there any member that has similar noise at 20mph 1/2nd gear excell and slowing down but goes when clutch is engaged?

Doc.

If there's a noise which only makes itself apparent in certain gears at certain times, I'd say it was abnormal and as such, should be fully investigated and remedied.

Has the noise always been there or has it come on recently? Did it come on gradually or suddenly? Is it possible that you have just become attuned to it?

The answers to the above will help you in your quest to resolve the issue, but resolve it you should, because otherwise, as you say, you will become liable after the warranty expires.

Certainly, it is true that the A2 appears to have more than its fair share of odd noises, but this doesn't sound like it should be one of them.

Cheers,
Mike

Thank Skipton1,

The noise has only just started within the last month or two and is (although slightly) getting louder.

I shall ask them to fully investigate and remedy, next week.

Oh well tomorrow is d-day! In for new tracking bushes and to investigate and remedy gearbox noise:( I think this one is the exception for the gearbox noise as i have been soo pleased with the solid gear change of this car.

as ever will report on outcome.

Here's the post mortem!

*Small warrenty job done, radio knob replaced.

*Tracking bush could not be sorted as they required a special tool that they did not have:(

*Transmission noise been put down to faulty "cooling fan"

I cannot suss out the diagnosis for the last point:confused: The noise is clearly from the transmission (it stops when the clutch is engaged) unless someone can put me right on this one.

Booked in for next tuesday but I shall email them and question the cooling fan diagnosis.

getting a bit annoyed now as the service from the service dept has been poor in the past.
