Today I.....

Which back door and what part please?
I get a rubbish signal as standard .
it's the signal booster in the rear hatch door, on the right hand side.

I only have the simple aerial setup, not the fancy diversify one.

part number is 8Z0 035 225.

To access it, open the back door and pull the trim that runs along the top of the window off, at an angle of about 45 degrees to the glass.

Start in the middle and just release the clips, working towards the ends.

This sounds odd, but each end is located under the edge trim, so you can't remove the end first.

Then remove the right hand trim by starting at the free end. Pull this at 45 degrees too, rather than down towards you. The end of the side trim is located under the trim at the bottom of the window.

The clips are not easy to remove the first time, so use copper grease when you replace the trims, in case it all has to come off again.

All you need then, is a torx bit to remove the amplifier.

I sourced my amplifier from Ebay, for £49.95 delivered; Audi charge double that....

Bought undertry

...replaced this little fella in the back door today and now I have a radio that can receive more than just interference !

I'd really like a through-the-glass roof fm 'bee spring' aerial though...View attachment 46154

Just about possible if you have oss but even then you need to dremmel out some of the metalwork from under the glass of the oss and you can’t do a bee sting because the rear oss panel would hit the bee sting but you can place the aerial at the front of the oss before the first moveable panel
I added a DAB aerial to the top of the windscreen it’s a look through the glass style and works very well
Cheers. Paul

If i could find an FM aerial like the DAB one fitted by Kleynie, i'd like to give it a try, because although the new amp has improved reception dramatically, i'm sure that it could be better, especially in weak signal areas.

I don't really want to go DAB...

Thanks.

Can you make photo of the holes sometimes?

So where do I drill the holes and has anyone any indication of how successful this is over a prolonged period of time?

Right old post but does anyone have photos? I've tried smearing sealant all over this headlight but it's always got condensation on the inside so I guess I'll need to go nuclear on it.

I got silica desiccant pouches - the little ones. Then I put my headlights on a radiator overnight with the backs off, and put the desiccant pouches inside before I reseated them. No reoccurrence of condensation as yet.

yup I kinda did all that - I've got as much silica as I can stuff in the lid but its losing badly

drill 3 x 10 mm holes in the bottom of the headlight. Has always worked for me and no condensation even in the wettest of weather.

I'm assuming you are drilling outside of the reflective areas steve - ie in the gap between the lid and the back of the bulbs?

No mate, on the very underside of the unit i.e the black plastic base of the unit. Go gentle though because if it goes too far it catches the chrome inner.

....noticed something in a Shell garage. I thought Tesco Momentum was the only UK 99 octane petrol and usually put this in my FSI, (it needs premium grade apparently to run well), but today desperate for petrol and nowhere a Tesco I pulled into a Shell garage. Filling up with V-Power I noticed a little professionally made sticker applied to the large pump advertising poster that stated '99 Octane'. With the sticker being an add on and the card on the nozzle stating 'New' it looks there is now a second choice for 99 octane, but I will obviously stick with Tesco as it is no doubt cheaper.

As far as I’m aware Shell has been 99 since they started v power about a decade ago, with the predecessor optimax being 98 Ron
