1.6FSI intermittent loss of power uphill, no revs, flashing emc light, any ideas?

Over the last 2 days my 1.6FSi has had the following symptoms-
almost complete loss of power going uphill with no revs at all, even with foot to the floor and then the emc light flickers.
Then going downhill no problems at all-
When it loses power I have to put in in first then suddenly when the road levels out the car is ok for a while with the revs back.
I'm going to, hopefully, drive it to my local independent to check but any advice would be great fully received.

ST, I've just been through the same sort of thing.. but in my case not just on hills.. (actually there's no hills around here, but that's another story) when read mine was showing up code 17428..

Thanks for that post it was really useful.
I have found Mike's guide to changing the fuel filter but will probably let my garage do it as I will no doubt muck it up.

Hi,
I've got similar problems, but nothing to do with uphill or downhill. In my case, it depends on the engine temperature, and if it has been restarted or not (yet).

The engine "temperature related" has been sorted for a while (the injectors were in fault), now the lambda sensor is sorted aswell. That cleared the sky to make the "uphill" problem visible
So, I'll have a look at that fuel filter, and if it's not the culprit, I'll investigate the other usual suspects from the injection system... (fuel pressure sender, regulating valve, fuel pump)
