Rattle Sound on FSI

Hi,

I just buy my A2 and I can hear a rattle sound at deceleration. I have to change timing belt and I think disassemble EGR valve.

Can you help me to find where the sound comes ?

From what I can tell it sounds like a broken manifold or stud but that would only show on acceleration...

Thanks for your reply, I whill check the manifold, initialy I was thinking to the throttle valve.

i would say to inspect the feed pipe for the egr valve as its prone to cracking and it sounds just like that---it runs under the high pressure fuel pump on the right hand side of the engine. Its expensive from audi but can be blanked off with a flat plate on the manifold and a Renault egr blank from a 1.9 TDI
hope that helps mike

Thanks for your reply.

That's what I thought, too! I didn't know the trick with Renault EGR !

I'm going to pull off the egr, I will show you some pics. :)

Thanks again.

Thank you Mike !

I remove the feed pipe and it is cracked IMG_20161215_011542.jpg

So, now I have 3 choices :
Buy a new one.
Blancked off the pipe but in this case EGR is now longer available
Try to repair the pipe with product like HOLTS gun gum

I wouldn't use gun gum here, some could break off inside and either get drawn into the cylinders or get caught by the catalytic converter.

The crack was very fine, so fine that I had to fill water into the pipe to saw it !

Even if the mastic break off it will go outside the engine.

And you are right, now there no more the rattle sound.

Thanks again ;)
