Trouble up hill

Well the baby goes in for a service on Wednesday with Audi-the £199 deal. I am aware that my car has extended service intervals but I'm not sure it was serviced properly by a specialist in January. I remember when I asked about the fuel filter being changed when I picked her up and was told "doesn't need it". That was 20,000 miles ago.
Ignoring the snow I am getting extreme difficulty increasing speed under load. Am hoping its just a a filter issue. Will keep you posted

I'd definitely suggest changing it anyway - I got mine changed as a precautionary measure with my long life service just a few months ago. It was still the original. It's not a big job so they might as well do it.

When you say you're getting difficulty increasing speed under load, do you notice a surging or hesitation sensation as well? I had that and it was actually the MAF on the blink. At light load it was ok, but under full load I guess the signals just weren't accurate enough for the demand on the engine. Swapped the MAF and it went away.

Ordinarily, the fuel filter chould be changed every 40K miles, so they might have had a valid point.

However, on your 2002 TDi, the earlier type of filter is used and this is a pig to change, which could be why they didn't want to do it!

Get it done anyway and see how it goes - it's cheaper than a new MAF, so fingers crossed it makes the difference.

Cheers,

Mike

There is some surging under harder acceleration but nothing on tick over. Gentle acceleration is fine, but am not willing to live with it.
As I said its in today on the £199 deal, have insisted the filter be changed even if its not "due to be done". Asked the to drop a new wiper on the rear seat for me to fit and declined the washer fluid top up. Prefer my own.
Will keep fingers crossed its not the MAF!

The MAF is very easy to replace and is about 80 quid I think. Not a big deal if thats what it turns out to be.

Thanks for all the advise. The dealer has changed the fuel filter for me and then the car apparently started suffered from irratic idling and cutting out. They checked the fuel pressure which was ridiculously low. Fuel pump failure.
Not picking it up til tomorrow now.

Well the little wonder is back with me and the changed fuel pump seems to have cured the juddering. Will need to get a check on the economy to see if its improved from the low 30mpg I was getting (nearer 60mpg normally). Engine bay and interior stink of deisel though. Hope that changes soon.
