Garmin ecoRoute HD

I am considering trying the Garmin ecoRoute HD OBD-II bluetooth module with the Garmin Nuvi 3790T on my 2002 A2 1.2 3L. The Garmin website states that it is only compatible with diesel cars from 2004 on. Has any one tried the ecoRoute HD? Have later OBD-II ports increased functionality. What information other than diagnostics is available on 2002 OBD-II ports.

I haven't used my Garmin for a year (bought it for my trip to Sweden) and was thinking of selling it, especially as lots of areas are switching off speed cameras. Always saw updating the Garmin as a pain in the backside.. But the DIS like features, especially mpg and error codes might give it a new lease of life.
