Probably The Best Service Ever?!

Hi Everyone

Just had my car service and came here to share my experience...
It was done by none other than Skipton (Mike).

See... this was my first time visiting skipton, and I must say not only was the service WAY... cheaper than any other place I could find, but also much better, all my filters where changed, oil changed and long interval setup/reset.
I also got a diagnostic for free and the setup of the code to lock all doors after the car is moving as a bonus (I didn't even know I could have that)

Mike is a super friendly guy and very professional.
He kindly allowed me to stay around and ask about a million dumb questions about my own car... very patient. ;)

He went through the car, doing all checks and filled the official maintenance list from Audi, for me to take as future reference, it turns out that the only thing I need to do ASAP, is change my brakes (pads & discs).
It's almost metal on metal at the moment.
All in all not bad for a 88000 car

All parts are official Audi parts too...

Manchester is about 2 hours from where I live (derby) but now it actually doesn't feel that far.
I know my A2 is really looked after and Mike will give you that extra bit of advice, that you normally don't get from a dealer.
It's also great to see someone so passionate about the A2 really making sure that you car is top notch in all areas...honestly.

I would like to HIGHLY recommend this service to any one, but specially people like me that don't know a lot about cars/A2's but would like the car to be very well looked after, whilst paying the right price for it.
You'll also come out with more know how with all the tips and also more confident, as everyone knows Mike's knowledge of the A2 is HUGE.

As a bonus I got to ride on the world famous Tank!, and I must say... all i've read is true, what an awesome piece of car. Felling a bit jealous actually. ;)

Anyway, I am doing this because, after asking around for service quotes the prices of the dealers are astronomical, don't really seems fair, when you can have much better for less.

Hope Mike is ok with me putting this out. But Hey...I think it's too good to keep undercover. ;)

Best

Jose

"YOUR A LEGEND"

Hey Scott

Yeah what you've heard about Skipton it's true... I used to live in London, and I remember thinking the same thing, "it's too far"...
But after you go visit him once you'll realize it's totally worth it...

I believe a few people here in the forums, travel quite a lot to visit Mike.

I drove up from Somerset to have Mike fit cruise to my 90 Sport. Was well worth it. I just waited until I had an excuse to be up that way, and organised a slot with Mike.

I even had chance for a pie and a pint in Mike's local!

Well worth it.

After reading this thread i decided to give mike a go as our a2 was due a service and previously had a bad experience with an independent audi specialist.

after discussing my options with mike i decided to buy a K&N filter as well.

Mikes meticulous attention to detail and his in-depth knowledge of all things A2 are obvious from the start and i came away knowing that our car had been serviced as if it were his own and that we shouldn't have any nasty surprises in the near future.

As far as price goes this wasn't a 'budget service' but if you want peace of mind that your A2 is serviced properly and that all the parts used are really genuine audi (my indy service had non-gen parts used) then consider giving mike a go. Also to see what is probably one of the best A2's in the UK 'NEW Tank' was also good, i love the wing mirrors and headlights !!!

Thanks again Mike,

Alan

To reiterate the positive comments for Skipton Autos already on this thread; Mike checked over Ada for us when we bought her which was great peace of mind, Cruise control was fitted with surgical precision at the Scottish meeting, and I take the M6 South later this month for Bose, new style key upgrade, Auto dipping mirror, iPod interface and HID's. ;)

Provided you can book a slot ( Mike is back in gainful employment which is fab :D) Skipton Autos is thoroughly recommended and well worth a lengthy detour past your local Audi main or independant dealer. PM the guru!

Thanks for all your kind comments guys - much appreciated!

Yes, I do carry out work on others A2s and treat them as if they were my own, but that's how I'd want my car treated by someone else, and it's the only way I know how to work.

As Alan said, service prices aren't bargain basement, but then with all genuine parts and the pukka oil, there's not a lot left in it for me when an average service takes around 2 hours. Also, consider that when I do a service, I change the fuel filter and pollen filter, which Audi normally charge more for.

Cheers,

Mike

Wel all i can say is this will be my second visit to Skipton Autos a 2 hr drive, just to have a new style key upgrade which by the way Audi dealers say you can't do. So i would recomend Mike to anyone its just that chat about A2 that i found very usefull and him give your car the once over from the man that knows them probably better than anyone, as Alan B had put try to make coincide with something else and pay Mike a visit, or you could get the once over or any upgrade done by Skipton's mobile on any of the socials as he tends to spend most of them working on others cars rarther than socialising lol

Cheers Phil

Thanks Mike!

Hi all. Just home after my second visit to Skipton Autos. Today Ada was treated to Bose upgrade, HID's, Auto Dimming rear view mirror and Audi iPod connection. All absolutely first class - the Bose and HID's are particularly brilliant!!:D What a difference!
Also had the pleasure of meeting Jose (peterevans) who's A2 was getting mintex brakes and a fuel filter done.

All in a days work for Skipton Autos! ;)

Thanks very much Mike - off to chill now and get some kip. Its been a marathon 19 hour day and nearly 500 miles round trip, but very worth it.

Cheers, M :)

Pint

@Murdo: Thanks so much for all the tips & the nice and refreshing pint, was great to meet you today...

Mike's job was once again pristine, and the car now brake's more efficiently and more progressively. Which makes such a big difference.
As it was before, barely touching the brake would get your face glued to the windscreen.

I also got my wiper changed, which once again made a big impact...
I don't think the blade was ever changed or so it looked.
@Mike: The problem with the wiper hitting the metal on the outside of the windshield is gone. It now behaves like a normal car...NICE AND SMOOTH!...

Hi All,

Just thought I should add a quick comment too. I also had my A2 serviced by 'Skipton Autos' last Saturday (long life). All filters and oil changed and a complete inspection including VAG-COM. Having had cruise control fitted by Mike last year I knew he would do a top quality job and as always can't recommend him strongly enough. All genuine Audi parts and it's reasurring to actually watch the jobs being done.

I'm lucky only to live half an hour away but I would say it is well worth a longer drive for anyone considering a cruise retrofit or service because Mike really knows his stuff and you know your A2 will be well looked after.

Thansk for all your kind comments - much appreciated.

Murdo - that was a marathon day for me too - even though I wasn't driving! Fitting Bose, an auto dip mirror, HIDs, key coding and panel fitting and iPod installation, along with the additional work for Jose of front discs and pads, brake fluid change, fuel filter change (a sod of a job!), new key and new wiper, all in the space of 8 hours, was pushing it, even for me!

Whatever your requirements, give me a shout and I'll see if I can't fettle your A2.

Cheers,

Mike

Yep! Very very impressive.

As you said Mike, theres not much else for Skipton Autos to do on wee Ada, and I'm not hooked on modding enough to start looking at dashboard changes for RNS-E etc. (you'll be glad to know!);)

Plans for me now will be suspension and re-map, followed by leather a very distant third!

To reiterate, that really was an impressive shift, and Skipton Autos is recommended to all. I think the familiarity Mike has with the A2 has a big impact on what can be done in a comparitively short time scale - however theres no skimping on quality - as I have said before the work is completed with surgical precision. You all know I'm fussy ;) and notwithstanding the mods, there is no evidence anyone has been working on the car. (Not something you can say of many dealers, when your car needs a good clean after they're finished!) Delighted :D

Thanks again!
