The boot vent leak

Well after the silicone failed done at the last fix, today I had the A2 in again to take the bumper off and replace the vents with brand new ones I got from Audi.

Well strangely there was no water in the car since the silicone was done and it only started to leak just after the cold snap and all the snow. Mike suggested that was when the silicone failed.

BUT look at these photos of the old vents:

Hmmm. The upper flap in both are totally disformed and when closed leave a huge gap. Also on the one there is a big bit of the plastic missing (bottom two pics). They assured me none of this happened when they took them out.

So I hope all is now sealed and perfect and no more water in the boot (and a ruined battery).

Hmm, I'm thinking I have a lot of condensation. That might be one of the causes. Do you have partnumbers / prices?

Part number A4A0 819 181 023238/ vent trim @ £10.39 each plus VAT so £23.90 total.

I hope it works.

Just to clarify that part number (it is the same for both sides), it is 4A0 819 181 - that is all you need to quote to the parts department.

The part is actually from an old Audi 100 - there's heritage for you!!

Cheers,

Mike

Yes I was not sure about those last digits but it was on the receipt.

Which Audi 100 Mike? Which year? Now that is interesting. So what is the oldest re-used part in the A2?

It was the face lifted model from 1991 Johann - I'd say that this part has a good claim of being the oldest component in the A2 (other than nuts and bolts etc).

Most of the parts on the car are bespoke 8Z parts and the majority of the rest is 9N Polo, from 1999.

Cheers,

Mike
