Tom, why don't you create a YouTube channel.
Morning John,

I’d like to do something like that as it would be even more helpful to show what I’ve been up to and how to achieve things.

Although I can be classed as a serial poster at times, I’d do tend to rush things as my spare time is quite precious. I think recording what I’ve been up to then editing the product could probably be time consuming and might take some tasks a little longer.

I’ll definitely consider it in the future though as I know a picture paints a thousand words but a video feed would be even easier to follow, especially for retrofits so everyone can benefit from what’s I’ve learnt/worked out.

I’ve always enjoyed the content that James @mrbroons has uploaded. Something similar is probably what you’re suggesting and I’d really like to be able to provide this for the community. Again, a great idea Sir and I’ll have a think about it.

Let’s see if there are any further/similar requests and I’ll see what I can do on the EUD and EYV threads.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening all,

That the driveway gone from 3 A2s to 2. End of an era - Project OEM has been collected.

We’re just a 2 Jaipur Red family now.

I’ll continue adding to the Project EYV thread in the coming days. It’s already received a few updates today.

Kind regards,

Tom

So who owns this now? It’s on eBay currently. We absolutely love this and are interested, so if anyone can fill me in, that’d be grand😀

Evening,

Yes this very A2 is currently up for sale. It was sold to Craig Fallan who has it listed on eBay. The only reason I let this one go was to gather the funds to purchase the recently acquired Project EYV A2.

Craig, who always intended to sell it, has the full specification of the vehicle but I’m also happy to answer any questions you might have.

Kind regards,

Tom

Ok…..so we have some news! On Wednesday we went to have a look at OEM after seeing it listed on eBay.
I had assumed that this went to a fellow member and never hit the open market, but it turned out it was for sale.
Now, since our first dip into A2 ownership with ‘ORC’ that has been a great car with lovely 5 seat red leather, and has had a lot of work done by myself to get it to a very good condition. We were both very happy with it until ‘Chad’ (named by the previous owner) came along as a spares or repair car for £380. Although a bit of a mess, a smashed sunroof, 2 knackered drive shafts, and grubby, I fixed it for a mot and commuted to wales for several months without issue. It also has a tow bar, and I really fell for this car and decided to sell the poverty spec tdi I had bought for the commute to my brother.
With some time and money on improvement it’s now a really nice car ( look up ‘journey of Chad’)
Both me and husband Mark, soon realised that this was by far the best car of the two as it now has cruise, 6 speed box etc, and Mark has a big thing about having a blue car, which in 17 years we’ve not achieved, he loves the azure blue.
So for the last year or so I’ve been checking gumtree, the forum, autotrader and eBay to try and find him one to match Chad. It seems all azure blue cars are petrol, few have OSS, and few are leather or 5 seat……5 seat so we could swap the interior.

And then…..OEM appears!!! Immediately I recognised the car, message Tom (above) and am soon talking to Craig Fallen, and realise I met Craig in December as I bought the lovely red leather to go in Chad… small world!!

So a trip up to Leicestershire on Wednesday to go to buy it (I say that as we had really decided that unless there was something we had missed, it was the one.
Big thanks to both Tom and Craig for the easy handover.
We had an enjoyable drive back, except on the way home a light came on the dash……Mark rang me to say the ‘volcano’ light had come up on the dash and to pull into the next services. Slightly worried, I remembered I’d seen him use the screen washers a few miles earlier!!!!😂😂😂😂 we did stop to check and have a break. It was the washers!

We added the car to my multi classic policy at the huge cost of £52! Bargain!

Already I have done a few jobs…..it had a very screechy belt noise which turned out to be a very shiny belt, which I have replaced with a gates belt, swapped the orange candle side light bulbs with led’s, and added a washer under the shift tower mechanism as it was loose……I had the same on Chad, as there’s a washer between the shaft and the shift arm and if not fitted the shifter is loose on the spline. It’s now got a really nice crisp feel to the gear box.

Morning Drew,

It’s really nice knowing that the Project OEM A2 has found such great custodians and that it’ll continue to be pampered. You had me worried that something suddenly went wrong with the car on the maiden journey whilst reading above, glad it was the windscreen washer fluid that was low haha.

Please do keep adding to this thread as and when you get the tools out and don’t forget to supply the occasional picture too. I truly think OEM is in the best possible hands and I wish both you and mark many happy miles.

Always available to chat over PM should you have any questions Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks Tom!

One small job done yesterday I replaced the boot struts. It’s surprising how these lose their pressure over time.
It was only after replacing them on My dolphin A2 that wouldn’t hold the boot up, that I then went to replace my brothers, on ‘ORC’ my recent black tdi, and now on OEM. when they are new the boot lid will stay in virtually any position and not want to slam shut unless fully open. Today I went to wales to make a purchase……

This morning I took a trip to wales to pick up a set of really nice wheels from an A1.
I’m very aware that Change isnt always necessary good, and there’s very little that we would want to change on OEM as it’s such a nice car, however the first time I showed a picture of the car to Mark, he loved it, wanted it, but said not the wheels! I do quite like them, but prefer the size of the 16”.
A plan for the future will be to rebuild an fsi rear end and fit that, and of course with these wheels the disc set up will be visible, but not with the pepperpots.
If anyone is after these wheels, do drop me a pm. I thought that by mentioning it on this thread first , people here get a heads up😀
I won’t be fitting these until I have done the suspension refresh, and that’s a few weeks away yet at least
In other news, It was added to my classsic insurance policy, and cost a tiny £52 including breakdown…..and £20 of that was an admin charge!

So slightly off topic, but yesterday I did a deal and got hold of a dead Fsi.
I’m thinking now I’m becoming a fully fledged A2 nut, that it’s a good idea to stock some parts. This was a pool/ loan car, and close to where I get my Mot’s done. The owner spotted my A2 on the ramp, and the offered me this fsi.
Apparently it developed a hot start fault that let 3 customers down, and that was it, several mechanics tried to fix it but never got to the bottom of the issue. It fired up ok after 4 years sitting. Initially it starts with e horrible rattle, and then it’s very smooth and quiet. Obviously I don’t want it, but maybe someone would for some parts?
Its poverty spec, but has aircon, sports interior, 17”wheels, and a scratch free plastic interior.
The rear axle will eventually find its way onto OEM.
Also, this car has ALL of its under guards, and the cover underneath the engine and the front bumper litre don’t have a scratch on them, if not seen a complete set on any car yet, so there will be some swapping going on, also it has mudguards that I removed without breaking anything, but at the moment Mark and I are discussing which car to go on……I think OEM, he says I should put them on Chad.
The only thing that may sway it is that Chad has the tow bar, so it would then have almost everything??
Which car???

Hot start symptoms on an FSI are likely to be a fuelling problem.
When the engine is hot, fuel at the input to the high pressure pump vapourises. To counter this, the fuel system temporarily increases the pressure from the tank electric lift pump. This increased pressure at the high pressure pump inlet prevents the vaporisation, and the engine starts.
Mac.

Drew, i'd be interested in it as a breaker but it depends on how many parts you plan to remove before sale. I could remove the rear axle for you before it goes to scrap. It would need to be pretty complete to be worthwhile as a breaker.
