I have done what you are looking to do. https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?threads/the-s-h-e-car.42630/post-526387I believe this is the VIN number, does this mean that it is an 01 model so would need a series 1 head unit?

Yes, I'm sure it does, as I'm registered. I probably copied the wrong web address. Sorry. Thanks, that link told me it did not accept registrations from UK and redirected me to https://erwin.audi.com is that OK ? I asume the same information is available there ?
I've just measured the Chorus II in the TT, and the facia is the same 220 mm width as the A2. There are lots of Mk1 TTs about, and being broken, so that should be a good source. The only difference, is, I believe, that the on/off button is low profile, to allow the radio cover to close. Mk1 TTs had Chorus and Concerts, and same as A2s, there are Gen I and II.An '02 plate should have had a Chorus or Concert II from new, I've never heard of any '01 model year (with the previous generation headunits) being registered as late as March 2002, although there are a few on '51 plates from September 2001. By then the '02 model year would have been in the showrooms. Check the 10th digit in the VIN number, visible on the top of the dashboard from outside the car. That will be the last digit of the model year.
I believe since the fascias are totally removeable that it should indeed be possible to swap with one from a dead A2 unit. As with the climate unit, the back end of the box housing the electronics is common to other Audis of the era but the A2 was the narrowest console to fit the unit in so it has the smallest fascia.
@L162LZ Sorry I was occupied with silly things like converting my time to salary , @PlasticMac said what I would have said, these schematics are very good to have.Go to Audi Erwin:
