1.4tdi Starting Issue

With possible injector related issues its always worth checking the injector wiring loom first.

Cheers Spike

Yeah I've heard allot about the wiring loom and have ordered one already. But not convinced, is it possible to be an electrical issue and not have any fault codes?

Potentially solved!!
Injector seals! Not a tricky job and runs better than before now. Starter is now dead so trying to source one asap.

Hi,

Have you checked the earth strap behind the passenger headlight? It's known to give symptoms similar to a failed starter motor. Using the search function will reveal plenty of information about how to clean it. :)

Regards,

Matt.

Yeah it's dead. A year of hard cranking have done it in. It lasted allot longer than I thought it would.

Matt is right, I have had a "Dead" starter motor twice now and every time it was not dead, it was just the earthing point needed cleaning.
Years of hard starting will almost certainly have burnt the earth connector (you can only see it when you take the bolt out) well worth a try before buying a starter motor.

An easy at test is to use a jump lead from a good earth to the starter motor body. That may prove it is just the earth lead contact.

Yeah I've got it out and bench tested it. It's dead, when the earth strap is the issue I found the dash lights dimmed when you tried to start. I've had the earth strap go on me before. Most notably in electrifix car park with my tools buried under stuff

There's nothing wrong with an allroad.
I just sold my 2.5 TDI after 4.5 years of fantastic motoring.
The trick to long lasting suspension airbags is simply to keep the suspension legs clean.
They are expensive cars to run and vagcom is essential.
An A2 is a piece of cake compared to the complexities of an allroad, but we are not comparing like for like.
My A2 now ticks most of the boxes and my wallet loves it!
I still miss the allroad a bit though...

New starter and it fired right up.
If you have any poor starting symptoms which are similar to poor fuel prime it might be worth checking the injector seals.
Its an easy job to do but requires a little care.

Im looking at the 2.7tdi or 3.0tdi, i want the manual transmission so its a tricky search.
