Hi boppers..
My A2 1.4tdi (90) 135K on the clock, has developed a problem in that as soon as I hit a hill & have to rev it it loses power.
Not sure if it's going into limp or the turbo is failing. EML was on.
It doesn't seem to be smoking and if you pull over & turn it off it seems to reset itself for a while.
I own a basic OBD2 VAG scanner and it threw up 3 codes, 17056, 17964 & 19463.
I checked the intercooler pipes, which seem fine, erased the codes & took her for a spin. Problem still occurred, EML came back on, but then didn't the next time I started her.
Looking at previous threads this seems to indicate a boost pressure issue. I've been underneath & checked the vacuum pipe to the turbo actuator which is ok & I can feel it sucking quite strongly with the engine running & my finger over the end.
The actuator rod doesn't seem to move very much when I try to move it by hand, not at all sure if this indicates an issue??
There's a fair bit of oil on the turbo itself (See pic) which appears to be coming from the union with the air intake tube. This union doesn't look to be sealing very well and I'm wondering (hoping) there's a failing O ring in that that could e the cause of the entire issue?
I've found a thread with a link to instructions on disassembling the turbo & cleaning, but removal looks to be a bit of a job. Is there anything else I should be checking before I launch into Turbo removal?
On the plus side, Cambelt is due fairly soon so I may as well fit a new cartridge whilst I'm doing that I 'spose.
The most annoying thing is I'm currently having the most wonderful love affair with a lass who lives on a narrowboat 3.5 hours away and my only alternative transport is my 45 year old Moto Guzzi Le Mans, it's torturous to ride & it's currently blowing a gale here in Devon. HELP!!!
