215 40 r17. Tyre pressures?

Hi, can anyone recommend what pressure 215 40 r17 tyres on a TDI should be please? πŸ€”
You can play around a little to fine tune what suits you but they should be fine at standard pressures like any other size tyres that are recommended or suitable for the A2 as the tyre pressures are correct for the weight of the car if that makes sense?

The pressures will therefore obviously vary with the weight you are carrying, amount of passengers, luggage etc, again as recommended inside your fuel flap πŸ‘

Are you sure the 17" wheels are listed on the fuel flap sticker. They certainly are not listed on my sticker.....

I prefer to run them quite hard and have all my 17's 18's at 40psi but it's a personal choice really

You can calculate minimum tyre pressures based on the tyre load (which is half the axle load) and the standard load index of the tyre.

Alternatively, you can calculate minimum tyre pressures based on the manufacturer's suggested tyre pressures.

You can increase tyre pressures (up to the safe maximum) if you prefer the handling of higher tyre pressures. Perhaps between 10% and 25% higher than the safe minimum tyre pressures. However, I wouldn't go more than 10% higher, as overinflating tyres causes a much harder ride.

Standard load index
155/65R15 77 (412kg)
165/65R15 81 (462kg)
175/60R15 81 (462kg)

That size tyre is not listed on my filler flap, I was wondering what others run theirs at? πŸ˜€

No they aren't but we all know that 205/40 17 tyres were factory fit to the 17" RS4 wheels on all the Sport models as standard and will run the same or very similar pressures πŸ‘
Evening Graham and Neil,

The 205/40 R17 tyre pressures are certainly mentioned on the sticker on my 2 factory Sports as they should be if they left the factory with 17” wheels fitted as standard or an option.

Yes 215/40 17 definitely won't be listed under the flap as they aren't a standard factory fit size but I'm not sure if the 205/40 17 size would be listed on a later Sport model that had that size fitted from new as you would think they should? I would have to check one of mine but am not home atm.

They are fine to use though as long as the offset or et of the wheels is quite low meaning they sit out a little further in the wheel arch than the standard et38 of the 7j Sport wheels as any rubbing occurs on the inside (wheel arch liners) when the wheel/tyre combination sits inwards too much.

They are also an ideal size tyre if you are fitting 7.5j rims like from a TT, S3 etc which normally have the perfect et31 or 32 offset, although do tend to be a little on the heavy side πŸ‘

I remember that the earlier cars had lower recommended tyre pressures as your images show which I always thought were a little on the low side.

I would advise others to go off the higher pressures you've shown on the slightly newer model πŸ‘

Not only weird but now very confusing as to the "real" tyre pressure recommended. As it happens I run 32-33 all round in all weights and weather in my 17" wheels.
Although not a sport my car was upgraded by the supplying dealer to 17's and sport suspension as it arrived as a 4 seater instead of the 5 seater ordered by the first owner.
