A broken little lady.

Hi,
New to the site. First post.
Had our 1.4 TDi SE A2 from new in March 2005. Sadly she’s not been driven much over the last 4 years due to illness in the family and last week she failed her MoT due corrosion on the rear brake pipes. The problem is that the garage is saying that the brake pipes are no longer available and I’m getting very different messages from the MoT garage and the local Audi dealership. The pipes connect to the callipers and, according to the garage, are the long pipes with a flexible coupling on one end. The dealership has quoted part numbers for rigid pipes. As the car only has 53,000 on the clock I want to find the parts - but where? Live up in NE, Whitley Bay. Struggling to get part numbers or where to source replacements. Any ideas?

Hi Keith,

Sounds like you have rear discs so likely a 2005 (you said 2015 from new was that an error) tdi 90 bhp with a red I in the back?

Regarding brake pipes, new hard lines can always be made up, so shouldn't be an issue, also there are two flexible pipes over the axle at the back, these can be found from a breaker on here I imagine these are what they indicated were no longer avaibale?
Otherwise there's the handbrake cables, the three piece set comprises a y shaped offset centre cable no longer avaible and then two cable to either side, readily available.

The club members will be able to help if we can find out exactly which ones are the issue here :)

Any chance of a nice photo of your car and the offending cable?

Good Evening Keith,

You say the local Audi dealership gave you the part numbers, (based on you're reg/VJN I assume) but did they confirm they are no longer available (NLA)? I suspect they are NLA in which case the only chance of a new part is from Audi Tradition here

Use their search with the part number to check on availability. If they are available the club has a method of buying and shipping but in the case of brake lines it may be difficult.

Barring that either used, try recyclers on here or as said have them made up.

Lastly for future reference our bible for part numbers is here

but it does need a little experience to use, ask anything you want know.

These are no longer available, but it’s actually very easy to work around the problem….
The hoses in the link are what you need to come from the solid pipe (that’s currently steel on your car) and attach to the caliper. The solid pipe is then made up in copper or knuffler, which is a job any normal garage will make up.
Rusty pipes are a common mot failure and just about any mot and repair garage will be able to make them up easily and cheaply.

Morning Kieth,

If its teh handbrake "Guide Tube" then the A2 community is well placed to "loan you" one so you can get back on the road quickly, then it can be replaced from AT.

Really appreciate all your help and suggestions.
Will track down a solution.
A couple of pics of our little lady.
Update will follow.
Cheers.

Some good new.
Found a local garage specialising in high performance cars (not for ours) and restorations. Booked in for next week to have new brake pipes made, new callipers and pads fitted and the handbrake sorted.
Looks promising so will update after work done.

Good! That’s what you want, a proper place that’s able to think outside the box, rather than can’t do, no parts.
Anyone who works on classic cars will know what to do.
