News A new "Hobby Business Venture" for me

looks like I will be adding about 450 miles sometimes soon as I will be collecting a gearbox for my petrol A2 from A2steve

Gearbox is nearly out of the petrol, an hour tomorrow should see it on the garage floor. Someone as had the box off before as the driveshaft bolts on the driver shaft were all finger tight and the near side driveshaft came out of the hub with finger pressure only, plus one of the 6 drive shaft bolts was a allen bolt not a spline bolt, looking through the starter hole in the bell housing the clutch cover looks to be very clean, so likely had a new clutch fairly recently :)

I think I will split the gearbox just to find out what as gone wrong in there

Cheers,

Hi,

Picked up the 280,000 mile TDi today.

Quite an interesting little car.

I am loving the colour, metallic blue (is it "Denim" blue perhaps?)

Body is tidy and it drove great on the way back, in fact cruising at 60mph it returned 72 MPG for the trip of 50 miles !!! So the engine seems fine.

The DIS needs a matrix, bad pixilation.
Front wheel bearing is noisy, booked in on Wednesday to have that done.
BOSE is working fine
There is a 6cd changer in the boot, not sure if it is working or not though, I will check later.
Interestingly it has most of the kit for the standard Audi Sat Nav but it looks like the head unit is just a standard one.
The sat nav buttons look like they need freeing up and the nav unit in the boot looks like it has not been used for years!.
Drivers door micro-switch failed.

Brakes are fine, gearbox is fine, it drives really well.

The disappointment was that the previous owner had let the wiper arm smear the screen and so it needs a new windscreen.

But all in all a pleasant surprise.

Some Pictures of it at its worst.

These pictures, as I say are at its worst, I prefer to show reality. I will post some nice pictures when it is fully valeted and with the climate panel replaced with an unworn one.

To follow the rule about prices on adverts if anyone wants to take it as it is (with the wheel bearing replaced, a replacement climate panel with no worn buttons and the drivers micro-switch sorted) (hopefully, I will be following the great "how to"). The price as-is will be £1,000 (no offers, sorry, that is what it has cost me).

It will be a fair bit more (of course) when it has been fully rescued (depending on cost of renovations)

Unless the screen is milky or otherwise damaged Steve you can polish the windscreen to remove the marks, might save a replacement.

Yes, that would normally be an option but they are a bit deep I fear and polishing does have an optical effect, but I have a contact in the "windscreen world" and so I will see what he says.

The front wheel bearings are being replaced (new of course) on Wednesday.

I will copy this part of the thread to the market place if required.

Looking food for the mileage. These seem to handle the high miles well and hold there value too from what I've seen . I recently swapped a 55 reg Peugeot 407 2.0 hdi for my 2002 a2 1.4 tdi mines got 177000 miles on it and still runs and drive spot on . You'd never believe that it's done anywhere near the miles it has if you didn't know

I ordered a genuine touch up kit from audi , only to have my order cancelled due to the colour not being available as it was a factory special order colour and they did not make the touch pens in this colour code as a special order colour, so the dealer told me .. But is a lovely colour

Hi,

As mentioned already I am leaving the "world of A2s" and so I am regretfully discontinuing this "venture".

I have a few A2s that I will now have to sell, but they are not all ready for sale.

Please check out the marketplace section for details if you are interested in any of the cars.

Exactly Steve, we need the daily jokes, one-liners and quips to brighten up the day!

So, two fingers to the tw*ts and haters, let's keep the A2OC rolling.

It wouldn't be the same without you Steve, so get better soon and I'm sure your helpful posts and playful banter will, as usual, be very welcome.
