Aero parts; definitive list

looks like some sort of corrugated cardboard to me

From my school days is it not very simple to take a template and create a batch of vacuum moulds using (abs) plastic? Im sure if we got someone with good skills to make a template then take it to an industrial estate, some firm would be able complete a batch mould at only moderate expense?

We'll be like F1 cars before we know it!

Google is my friend ;)

Has anyone tried the front arch winglet/spoilers on the rear?
I don't expect they'll go straight on but may do with minor tweakage like the slim spoiler.

I suspect that after a massive wind tunnel test programme, Audi incorporated all the worthwhile mods into the 1.2 tdi package. Its always good fun to try and improve on the factory spec but there is a risk of doing the mods and getting no improvement or even making the drag coefficient worse.
For those who have not seen it, this is an article on the A2 development - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1059&d=1193173538

Cheers Spike

Except in that article the photo of the underbody doesn't actually show the tunnel cover, arch winglets and subframe spoiler. Durgh!

THIS is the definitive list! Having ordered today there is an 'A' suffix on the front spoiler part no. without which they may not recognise the part correctly!

(EDIT NOTE; suffix 'A' for spoilers now inserted in CORRECT place! List re-aligned for clarity. All refs taken from my Audi Parts Invoice)

1 x 8Z0 853 887 A - Spoiler (FSI winglets)
1 x 8Z0 853 888 A - Spoiler (FSI winglets)
6 x AN 906 513 02 - Screws £1.35 each
4 x 8Z0 807 300 - Rivet £0.53 each
1 x 8Z0 825 229 - Lining (centre tunnel cover)
1 x 8Z0 825 211 - Trim Panel (under slim spoiler)
3 x 8z0 825 267 - Rivet (plastic)

Could the 'moderators' sticky this please?

It will be interesting to see if the front spoiler/winglets work with the bodykit...

hi adrian888 what suffix are you referring to ? as your list doesn't have one but my list on the first page does.looks like the definitive list is getting slightly confusing now-and that is where this thread started is it not ?

interesting to see how you get on with these mods and their results-also yes it works with the body kit as another member has these mods done to his with full audi kit fitted

I had intended removing all pricing, with currency fluctuations VAG seem to be constantly adjusting parts prices. This list is for the key 'Aero' parts which have been discussed on variuos threads, ie, front wheel arch spoilers/'winglets'; undertray to central tunnel; undercar spoiler to rear. I am not aware of any other parts which can be retro-fitted without extensive work and costs. For guidance the parts above totalled £64.85 when purcahsed on 26 February at Audi Huddersfield.

How much were the winglets though.
seperate prices gives a better guide,so I know if Im being stitched or speaking to the right man on the phone when Im asking for Trade discount.

Audi Huddersfield have just 'phoned to say the ordered parts have arrived! Audi UK/Germany must be wondering what is happening with a sudden rash of orders for these parts...... i assume somewhere/someone from Audi is on the forum or monitors it?!

This is a very interesting thread, thanks to all those contributing.

I have a short article from "European Automotive Design' that discusses the 1.2TDi developments. It says the 1.4TDi car has a Cd of 0.28 and the 1.2TDi is 0.2. That 10% reduction in drag equates to a 2% saving in fuel. Also of interest it says that for every 10% in weight saved, a 5% improvement in fuel efficiency is seen.

Again, if anyone would like this PDF file feel free to PM me.

so if we saved 100% of the weight we only save 50% of the fuel:confused:

Weight is clearly a factor and Lotus always had the right aproach with their philosophy, light and simple (shame they forgot about the reliability bit...)

Ha ha you're taking the journalist's words too far.:)
I believe the quote was in reference to weight reduction from a 1.4TDi to a 1.2TDi, which is 165kg less and not to be extrapolated any further ;)

Sometimes all these fuel saving claims by manufacturers remind me of an article years ago in 'Car' magazine by 'Steady' Barker when talking about the diesel BX (another light car design) who commented that if all the fuel savings from all the accumulative modifications were added together he would need a fuel tanker to follow him around so he had somewhere to put all the fuel he was 'manufacturing'..... There comes a point when all this fuel saving looses sight of the one factor the legislators and manufacturers cannot control, the driver and his/her right foot..... It also brings to mind the new generation of small turbo petrol engines are simply not delivering the claimed economy in real world driving..... Although the new Fiat 2 cyl 'Air' engine seems to be a good design.

Their latest car, the Evora, is heavier than a Porsche Cayman S (its closest competitor). Moreover, it's also less powerful and more expensive :(
