Are "Concert 2" head units from other Audi Models Compatible with the A2

I have an 8L0 code concert 2 in my A2, and it works fine, including the backlight etc. I don't know if it was coded to the A2 as it was there when I bought it.

Good Evening,

I believe a straight swap in a series 1 head unit car using a Concert II will work to a large extent but not fully. The Concert II will play CD music and you can listen to the radio, great but it will not illuminate at night with the headlight switch, it will not turn off with ignition and l guess full DIS if present will not display head unit information, eg. radio station. The reason is that the Concert II uses the CAN system to communicate with other parts of the car, and this link is not present in series 1 head unit cars. The upgrade to full Concert II functionality can be achieved if you know what you are doing by adding an extra wire to act as a link to the CAN system. If you do not know what you are doing engage Tom (Timmus).

Disclaimer - I do not not know what I am talking about really.

An '02 plate should have had a Chorus or Concert II from new, I've never heard of any '01 model year (with the previous generation headunits) being registered as late as March 2002, although there are a few on '51 plates from September 2001. By then the '02 model year would have been in the showrooms. Check the 10th digit in the VIN number, visible on the top of the dashboard from outside the car. That will be the last digit of the model year.

I believe since the fascias are totally removeable that it should indeed be possible to swap with one from a dead A2 unit. As with the climate unit, the back end of the box housing the electronics is common to other Audis of the era but the A2 was the narrowest console to fit the unit in so it has the smallest fascia.
I've just measured the Chorus II in the TT, and the facia is the same 220 mm width as the A2. There are lots of Mk1 TTs about, and being broken, so that should be a good source. The only difference, is, I believe, that the on/off button is low profile, to allow the radio cover to close. Mk1 TTs had Chorus and Concerts, and same as A2s, there are Gen I and II.
TTs never had Diversity, so may not have the Fakra connector, if so, not Diversity compatible.
Edit: Just looked at a few TT Concert IIs, on ebay, and they do have the Fakra connector, so that's good.
They can all be coded for Bose or non Bose.
Mac.
