At last I got one!

Hi Everyone,

I thought I'd better introduce myself. I'm Rich, from Chelmsford in Essex.

I'd been looking for an A2 for a while, but they were always just out of my price range. I certainly couldn't afford a TDI, so I was looking for 1.4 petrols only. My only stipulation was the climate control.

I was quite pleased when this one came up on ebay. After a mad dash on the trains from Essex to Staffordshire, I bought and drove it all the way back home with no problems and on about £15 of petrol too!

An added bonus were the sport seats and the Bose sound system. I'm very happy with the cheeky little car so far, but will be on the look-out for various pieces of trim as there's plenty of scuffs inside that although barely noticible, really annoy me.

I ended up paying £1550 for it which I consider a good price, what do you think?

Cheers,

Rich

Welcome - I'd say that's a bargain, nice one. Rear Bose speaker grilles - they're a rarity!
Looks like it's had an aftermarket rear parking sensor kit fitted too?

What bits of trim are you after for replacement?

Hi all,

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'll certainly give a wave if I spot any A2's around :)

Mine does have an aftermarket rear parking sensor kit fitted, At first it annoyed me that someone drilled the bumpers but it's got a small dash-mounted screen that is tucked away in the corner and seems to be fitted quite well so I'm happy enough. Really, I only want proper Audi kit in there where possible but it's ok.

I need a drivers side door card as mine's got a fag burn in it. Other than that, there's lots of little bits that aren't so obvious like the lower centre console panel (the one that goes into the footwell) has been worn by the driver's shoes, stupid things like that. It looks like just about most plastic surfaces have this slightly rubberised coating and in places it's been scuffed. Very annoying.

Oh and I need to replace the two cup holders as they're both broken. So I guess that means the double din stereo has to come out...

I make it sound worse than it is, but already I have a real affinity for the car, so I want it as good as I can make it! It's perfectly presentable in all fairness.

The soft-touch coating in the A2 is annoying. When I first bought my A2, there was loads of it missing, but over the last 2-and-a-bit years I've slowly replaced panels and the interior is looking younger. It looks as though your climate control unit doesn't have the soft-touch coating, which is a rare blessing.

The stereo does have to be removed in order to replace the cup-holders. Once the stereo is out, you'll see two screws which allow you to pull the heating vents out (though be careful not to damage the wire to the hazard warning button). Once the vents are out, you'll be able to replace the cup holders. Then reassemble.

Door cards appear on eBay not too infrequently.

I think you've found a good little car for £1500. With sport seats, Bose and the double-din dash, you've got a depreciation-free car, as you'd be able to sell those bits and pieces for £1500 if the worst were to happen. Happy motoring!

Tom

Sounds like a great buy Rich. Welcome.

I'm just down the road in Brentwood, technically inept yet my 10-year-old passed it's MOT with no advisories today! Great little cars.

Excellent stuff. Cheers everyone.

Now that I've blown the cobwebs out of it, the car seems a lot "perkier" than before.

I wondered why it was so slow, ok admittedly, I was coming from a 250bhp Saab which is like a rocket ship, I couldn't believe how slow my A2 was. I guess the engine was full of carbon and (mildly) thrashing it for a few days seems to have done it the world of good! It's smoother, picks up better and is far more zesty to drive. Much better!

I will get it serviced though, there's a good VAG specialist in Billericay somewhere that I need to track down.

Cheers,

Rich

Billericay specialist............if you track them down, please let me know Rich. I'd have two cars that could have their future attention!

Cheers

Lots of A2s serve their lives out in urban traffic-plugging, short stop-start journeys and generally low-speed driving, so it's highly likely that they get a bit asthmatic as they get older, so a good old "Italian Tune Up" is always worth a go! (usual terms and conditions apply!).

Hi all we are in Essex -- Maldon to be precise. I was really lucky to stumble across an Audi/vag independent in Coggeshall near Braintree. We have taken our a2's there for the last 4 or 5 years. He knows a2's and his prices are very good. He has carried out all work swiftly and professionally there for I have no problem recommending him. His name is Ian and the company name is CARS - Coggeshall auto repair services. I will post a link to web site in due coarse. He uses Audi parts or oem what ever your preference.
He knows in the social sec so please mention me to him when calling.hope this is of help to you cheers mike
