Brake Light Problem

It wasn't in stock, they had to order it in, it was for a 1.4 petrol (the one that Simon bought from me recently)

But dealers do vary in competence and it sometimes depends on if they are part of a chain and if that chain is any good.

Sorry to hear that you have been unlucky with this, but a patern part like this should be OK, I have used a few of these from eBay and they have been fine!!

Good luck with the rest of the issues!!!

True comment about the supply chain. The garage that I use (and have done for years) have been having issues with VW/Audi parts for some time now. Not their fault but they are the ones who get the irate customers wanting their car back. There is another company moving into the area who are a direct dealer for VW Audi parts and the garage is going to use them from now on.

The A2 I bought was (supposed to be)for my daughter. I get to use it lol as long as I fill up the tank from near empty if I use it to go to the newsagent. I am also allowed to service it, MOT it, Insure and tax it - you get the idea. As the car was off the road over the festive period, it didn't cause too much problem as she was on holiday from university at the time and more interested in partying and getting lifts rather than drive. Think she planned it haha.

And the ebay part was German manufactured, original OEM spec (said so on the box so must be true) and still working fine.

Just fitted yet another brake light switch. Difficult to get from audi they treat it the same as ordering keys?. PART 1J01945511A GOT IT FROM Soda £8. . They are available from Seat also. Took old one to pieces and found contact burnt on pin 1. The plunger can be pulled in and out on a ratchet as many times as you want its just teeth against a metal spring. Fitting is fairly easy if you can stand on your head and covered in other posts.

Another successful brake light switch assembly completed today. The new version has a slightly longer plunger, I had to get this to the same height of the old one or there abouts prior to fitting followed by some manual adjustment by pulling on the plunger (one click at a time ). Tested brakes, ran vcds and hey presto no fault codes.

I know this is a very old thread but after taking out the brake bulbs to test another A2 I forgot that I had removed them and drove the car, got back home and the glow plug light was flashing, I thought "no, not another break switch problem" did a scan and yes, brake light switch fault came up.
I then put the bulbs back in and re scanned and the fault would not go away. So I tried the brake pedal and suddenly released it and the glow plug light suddenly stopped flashing, another re scan and no fault.
So that worked for me.

wrong wattage brake light bulb was the cause of my led brake light being on when lights turned on and my glow plug light flashing in dash. Once bulb replaced all good ??
