not sure if this is the right place on the forum, saw this on Facebook looks interesting if there was a way to hide the wire I think its looks really good, thoughts?
as I don't have an A2 yet I don't think it will restrict the view as i've heard you sit higher up in the front?

Best way would be to fit a usb socket in the top of the dash and use a short cable to connect?

some years back there was a thread where someone cut out the panel on the top of the dash and then made a screen pop up using the cut out as the lid. Only for the brave and those with a steady hand with the Dremel! I've toyed with doing the same as I think screens down below on a double DIN are too low.

You can find many units like that one on Amazon and AliExpress. Looks ok to me, although having it further back on the dash might make for easier viewing angle.

Thanks I’ll have to do a search

Evening,

I too have considered not using the central vent and sealing the supply pipes up below the dashboard covering. This then allows the modifier to add a much dealer storage tray where other have cut out the rectangular shape in the past. I’ve been wanting to add an A1 pop up screen for a while now that is connected up that a CarPC.

I’d leave the actual vents though so it looks as OEM as possible though. Something I may well do on the next project whilst the dashboard is out.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hmmmm, food for thought Tom. I have a DD Dash ready to swap, but this may need doing before it goes in! A flip up smart screen would be ideal. The only thing about fitting the screen too far forward, is risking reflections in the windscreen at night.

I think i found it! Linky credit to @DJ 190 he done an amazing job satnav (Carplay) has really moved on as that link was 10 years ago

I’ve bought a couple of these units and been pretty impressed with them if you don’t want the faff of a messy installation. They all offer audio output via FM transmission, Aux cable and (pretty rubbish) internal speaker, some of the more expensive ones also include dual Bluetooth so they can transmit audio by Bluetooth to the head unit as well as connecting your phone that way. Got one last year for my wife’s Up (whose dash design more or less prevents replacing the HU) and it’s worked very well, and hardwired in it looks very tidy. I’ve always been sceptical about cheap in-car gadgets that use FM transmission but been really surprised at the sound quality using this method so never bothered to use an Aux cable.

Bought a second unit for a friend recently from Aliexpress and considering how ridiculously cheap it was it turned out to be very good…

The low widescreen design means it can mount on top of the dash without restricting visibility at all. A word of warning though, the display quality for this one was absolutely fine for carplay but very poor for android auto. The one in my wife’s Up (which appears to be no longer available) works well on both and I’ll put it into our FSi shortly. These are much easier and safer to use on the move IMHO than interacting with your phone on a mount.
