Changing to 16's

To be honest, 17" or 18" wheels on the A2 is like an old lady with running shoes.
Perhaps but there is more to it than speed. Cornering at normal speeds is improved slightly too.and some of us like larger wheels because of the appearance.

As you are saying, the A2 is no race car but there are other reasons for larger wheels.

And so does the tire. A lot of A2 owners buy cheap tires and get poor road handling. I am satisfied with the road handling but it might be the S-line suspension that contributes. But my expectations are not that high, after all it is a shopping trolley.

Have had them all on the car now and can now say i have found the best tyre size for me with my present set up - 15". I would love to have 17" back on but i just cant trust the local council to keep the roads in a good enough condition to avoid me shelling out cash to fix broken springs and bent rims every six months or so! (yes I'm aware you can claim but its a pain) plus i found i was looking out for potholes rather than concentrating on driving so this had to change.

When my suspension needs an upgrade I will no doubt look into 17" once more. I've also started to submit pothole reports when i see a bad one to the council so i prevent other people having to go through the inconvenience of damaging their vehicle and subsequent cost.

oli

Ps - I feel much better now

Can an expert tell me if I will have any speedo issues if I fit 205/55 r16 to my 1.4 petrol? I am currently running 185/50 r16 but all the wheels need a big refurb and have been offered a set which are in much nicer nick.

Thanks allan

Unfortunately the diameter would be too large and the recommended maximum increase is 2.5% (approx)
the 225 55 16s would be an increase of 6%. So not only would your speedo be reading slower by quite a bit (you would be doing 96 when your existing tyres are doing 90), I would think they would also rub on the arches, because they are too wide as well as being too tall.

It it is not impossible but not recommended.

steve ...do you mean 225/55 or was that a typo as i am looking at 205/55? Just checkin
Sorry

that was my usual typos to blame.

Yes the comments were about the 205 55 16s height wise. But they are not as wide as the 225s so width should be ok. But they are 6% too tall.
