Plus 1 for removal and washing in soapy water
To do so remove the radio
remove the two X head screws that hold the centre vent assy in place
pull out the centre vent
disconnect the hazard light switch cable
the cup holder as a clip on each side, these need to be pressed together to allow the cup holder to be pulled free of the centre vent
Then give them a good scrub in some hot soapy water and use an old tooth brush to get them clean
allow to dry out and then apply a little WD40 to act as a lubricant
I have made a good one out of two broken ones before now, they do come apart with a little effort
So whats wrong with using the WIFES toothbrush....I do when I get dog ****e on my boots..........................ummmm, I am now wondering if that is why the wife's breath smells?
I used a little graphite powder (which is for lubricating locks). It's dry, doesn't smell and, as a side benefit, everything in a small radius becomes glittery when you inevitably overdo it! Shiny!
