Difficult start TDI 90 with MYP 6-speed conversion

It’s possible that different models that were fitted with the CAYC engine had different gearboxes and possibly DMFs fitted (not all MYP) so maybe when we talk about a CAYC starter it doesn’t define something unique. I must apologise if this is the case. I should have used the full part number. I also agree I should have removed the spacer!
I am still interested to know if anyone else with the difficult start solved with a new starter has confirmed failure of the starter pinion freewheel in the actuated position. Also to Martin: I’ve still not come across the solenoid connector I have put in a safe place

That's the one I used.
2014 Audi A1 1.6 Diesel Manual CAYC Starter Motor 02Z911024H

@BiggDogg I'm afraid I never got round to testing my old starter. I've still got it somewhere.
No worries about the solenoid connector. Seems to be running fine with my makeshift spade connector for the time being. ?

And are you using the spacer?

Even more interesting, so why are you using the cayc starter? Did you have issues with the original?
Yeah problems meshing with the original starter, even with the spacer removed (but was fitted for a few months when first converted). Damaged but salvageable DMF ring gear, same as BiggDogg.
To be honest I was a little surprised that the CAYC starter fitted, given the difference in pinion to the original, but based on BiggDogg's trailblazing experience in this thread I gave it a go and it's been fine ever since.
