Engine blown?

I wonder if it has the right dipstick fitted ?

This is what I mooted. You can see that someone spots the dipstick (or tube) is broken, pops onto eBay for a used 'A2 DIPSTICK', never occurs there are different ones (1.4 petrol, 1.4 diesel, FSi), chucks it in, sells the car.

OP: does the oil level register correctly on the dipstick now?

I haven't actually checked. Garage says it's right now and for me to pop in next week and they will check the oil level again.
Is there a part number on the dip stick that I can check?

I'm not sure and away from my FSi's currently. However, if they measured the oil going in, now's the time to check the reading yourself on the stick, just so you know how it should look. If it looks O.K. then fantastic. If it doesn't, pop it up and I'll see if my two have part nos (or at least measure them).

Don't be alarmed if it's smoky and smells hot for quite a few miles: odds are the exhaust has oil in it and it might need to burn it off. Just
take it all a bit steady until it (hopefully) settles down.

The 1.4 petrol BBY (not 1.4 petrol AUA) engine also uses one of these two dipsticks.

the part number on the dipstick is stamped / moulded into the handle - I just can't remember now if it is in the surround by the o-rings that seal the end of the dipstick pipe, or in the handle itself.

Not had a chance to check the dip stick yet. Started back to work Monday and have been non stop. Hopefully check it on the weekend, ive got to change a front bulb so will check it then. Thanks for all your help.

Is it still smoking?
No, smoke has cleared. Its a little erratic after start up with tick over but clears itself and settles down. But it was like that before the oil overfill. I was thinking of putting some sort of system cleaner in. Injector cleaner or something of that sort. Would that be advisable?

It can’t hurt!

I recommend Millers petrol ecomax- run the entire bottle through at the recommended dose.

Even the AMF/BHC/ATL and ANY dipsticks are different!

Early and late AUA are also both different from each other and from BBY (which from memory I think *is* common with the BAD engine one), then the various Tdis are different as well...

They are a different part number or they are incompatible? Because the sump on a aua and a bad are completely interchangeable! as they are with most of the small block 1.4/1.6 vag engines of this era.
