No probs... not sure about the rear dust cover because until the coilovers are fitted you don't really know what suspension travel you'll have, obviously if you use your current ones they may need shortening.

There was this snippet about an alternative solution to protecting the rear strut, posted earlier in the thread but here again.

...if you use Chrome and Google translate the page is just about readable.

Something to note further down in the above thread (which i read somewhere else too) is a sleeve can be fitted over the struts to protect from dirt and water ingress which can easily damage the components, a BMW part is recommended - Part No. 32111118688... something else to consider whichever coilover kit I go for.

Actually the above link to German forum might be in relation to protecting the front struts with a BMW part... here it is as a straight translation;

So that neither water nor dirt particles, which are thrown through the tire to the piston rod, can affect the effect and service life of the VA dampers, I have now installed an axle sleeve as a protective cover.

Fitting for all spring struts of the FK-threaded running gear is for example the following part:

Bellows no. 32111118688 from BMW.

The bellows is installed between the spring (s) and the piston rod. On top it is overlapped on one of the beads of the unabridged yellow PU stopbuffer. Simultaneously simply pushed on the thread of the spring strut.

Now rain and dirt have no chance. By the way, this is also a prerequisite for compliance with the lifelong warranty offered by Koni for your shock absorbers.

Sorry loads of questions I'm a bit of a noob here...

You had any thoughts of updating any of the front struts / bearing or not needed?

You can probably reuse your originals but now would be the time to stick new ones in if its a higher mileage car. From experience of driving very low mk1 golfs and a Mk1 jetta, the topmounts and bearings do take quite a bit more pounding on a stiffened up car so wear on older ones could be accelerated quickly.

As I want to just lift out the sports suspension as complete units I've opted to get new ones so if I decide to get another A2 I can quickly swap over again. Plus they do go occasionally and the front strut top mounts are not a 5 minute job if you do need to change them at a later date.

The ones I bought were the stronger Polo versions, part number 6Q0 412 331 B

I just went for the Febi versions - £45.30 total off ebay for both sides with bearings - 6 new top bolts and new strut top nuts included. Febi's own part number for these kits is 37895

So new coilovers fitted and massive difference to handling but just a little low as I want to minimise impact from camber / premature tyre wear.

Any suggestions on a cheap and cheerful coilover adjuster?

Here we go...

mmmm - pro sports all the way up and a bit harsh. I dont mind it too much but passengers may find it a little bone crunching :)

Looks good Cheechy...

My fronts are on!... man them offside top mount bolts! They were a bit corroded on the threads so it was tiny turns with a combination of tools to get them out. The bottom bolt on one side was a fight too so all in all took longer than expected.

Hopefully the rears won't be as painful.

yup seized and corroded bolts!

Well done on getting fronts done and good luck with the back...

I'm now finding the car is creaking badly not sure where its coming from - top mount and bearing of front replaced, as well as rear top and bottom mounts replaced so its a mystery - what's left (I'm assuming the new suspension doesnt actually creak right? :D )
