Front Anti Roll Bar (ARB) DIY Replacement

Er, daft question I know and, please, pardon my lack of tech., but how do you get the polo ARB bush over the ARB?

There are two mental brackets that bolt to the sub frame, one each side.

Unscrew the bolts and remove them along with the old bushings. Remove old bushings from metal brackets.

Take the new bushings and just slip them over the ARB, at the location from where the old ones were removed, followed by the metal bracket over the bushing.

Then screw back on the subframe.

Ah! As Archimedes once said.......Or, was that Eureka!? Anyhow thnx for the explanation on how the bush fits onto the ARB. That typo, Spike, is all the more entertaining when you look at where, on the ole QWERTY, the letters reside. :)

Changing the drop links and bushes this week.
Is it feasable (or safe) to use an additional jack to move the wheel up while one side is jacked up, and the tyre is off, to reproduce the effect of being on the ground?

You need the front jacked up, both wheels off ground etc so there is no torsion in the ARB, so you can easily unscrew everything and replace

arb

i just got arb bushes from powerflex , i forgot to ask you guys , i hope the arb bushes will fit my a2 1,4 petrol 04 plate . bush nu pff85 603 16

thanks

I'm thinking about fitting new bushes to the ARB, but don't know if I have the old or the new one.
I'm aware of that there is a difference in thickness, one is 16mm and the other 19mm, but which one is the new one?

so then, if the ARB bushes have a split in them, can you easily change them without removing the ARB?
Just askin as I don't have to renew the ARB, just the bushes.

Yes, the bushes are split so the can be opened out to slip over the roll bar.

An old but great thread. Unfortunately I can no longer see the original posters photos, any reason why admin?
Im going to attempt this job and im assuming that the parts needed for my 55 plate 1.4TDI will be the same as those listed in the first post and tork values will be the same.

We lost many attachments from the earlier posts (i.e. from many years ago) we are stil trying to recover them, but some are proving to be quite tricky.

Thank you for the swift reply Steve..............no worries, im sure there are others ont net . I watched a you tube vid this morning showing the whole process of swapping out the old drop links but I cant find it now.........seems like a straight forward job with the right tools.

Incidentally, found these on the bay. these should be good to go or would anyone recomend any other make?

Thanks in advance.

I fitted Meyle HD droplinks last weekend when doing my suspension overhaul. They are much better quality than the standard items and the engineering is better. The standard items have to have the thread held with a hex key (iirc) to loosen then off with a ring spanner. The Meyle items can be tightened with two spanners...a much better idea.

If i can work out which ones they are and i still have them, I'll repost them.
