front end issues: bearing, arms or bushings or?

Ok just back from test drive and all is good...

Aa guy checked 1st thing if wheel was loose...

Took the cover off wheel bolts from front passenger side and 3 bolts where hanging out...

Took rest of bolts out and wheel off and inspected wheel hub, put all bolts in to make sure everything was straight and ok

Then put wheel back on and then tightened rest of wheels... even rear wheel had loose bolts but nowhere near as bad as front passenger wheel...

So happy end to the drama...

Thanks for everyone's help... I'll feel more confident doing these checks in future now...

Wow, that's unusual. You got me thinking now, I torque the wheels to 110Nm, does anyone know the actual figure that Audi recommends?

Golden rule is always torque them up immediately you put the wheel on! Don't leave it till later!

You should also go back after a couple of days and recheck the torque - or maybe a week - because they can loosen. At least that's what I was told!

you can get a 120Nm torque adapter for 1/2", so when you use an impact driver, it's not overtightened. I'll be getting one of those this winter.

I remember that noise coming out of my cousin's mk1 Scirocco back I '88 when test driving it after some repairs being done. Being young and careless, we took it to about 90mph and the noise appeared, slowed down, back home and ..... we forgot to torque the wheel bolts. We were more lucky than we deserved, but lesson learned, as I'm writing this now.

ok guys...

a little update...

i went for a 100 drive and about halfway I started feeling some really small vibrations from front end again... this really reminded me on how the original post here on this thread - how the problem started... then it gradually got worse till I felt like I had to park the car till I figured out what was wrong...

so when I got to my journey end I checked the wheel bolts... they all seemed really tight...

drove some more and I could still feel the small vibrations, shudder or whatever you want to call it... then thought maybe tire inflation was low especially on driver side front so halfway back on return 100 mile trip i stopped and checked bolts again (they were tight) and topped up air....

car felt better but still could feel the tiny vibrations from front end... possibly still bearing going bad? wheels out of alignment?

remember I tried to jiggle the drive shafts earlier and they were rock solid and the rubber covers on joint to wheel looked brand new...

also, the drivers side front tire is a different brand to the other tires... could this be giving me the tiny vibrations too?

maybe wheel balancing weight has fallen off and now a wheel isn't balanced?

also, maybe I am just being paranoid and car is fine? ha ha... maybe...
