Frontend knocking sound

Where do you buy bolts? My experience is that bolts is not included when buying parts online, and at the dealership you have to pay the same amount for the bolts as the main part.

i cross reference part numbers of bolts with other models then use my local seat dealer for parts like that

The new 12 point nuts have metal tabs which act as a ratchet on the splines, they can't come undone without bending/snapping the tabs off which is why they are single use and why they are (worryingly) low torque for an axle nut. I imagine the old, normal 6 sided, axle nut would need a lot higher torque. Best to use the new ones as they are cheap as chips (sub £2 as I recall). Another thing to check for is a broken spring, you may have lost a small piece off the end of the coil which wouldn't cause too many issues other than a clunk every now and again.

Jeff & Paul thanks for the info, I replaced the original nuts when I fitted the new hubs sometime ago, & installed everything correctly but was unaware of the recommendation to tighten the shaft nut by your prescribed methods & will carry out asap.

But will add that the Audi supplied 12 sided nuts haven't been loosened but the hubs wee both loose rather alarmingly.

Many thanks for the help
Keith
