Gear selector tower replacement

Right! I need a proper 5mm pin to do this right! Still a bit of slack and a noisy gear shift ‘rattle’ in neutral.

Who has some bar stock of 5mm metal or nails of the appropriate width that they can stick a wee bend in and sell me? I’ve tried to find anything on eBay or in DIY stores and am seeing nothing!

Depronman and others with ‘leet skillz’ I’m looking at you!

are you wanting the 5mm tool to lock the gear lever in place whilst adjusting the gear cables ???

If you I can send you a piece of 5mm silver steel that will do the hub

Cheers,

how about something like this, i personally use a 5mm drill bit , with insulation tape on the end so it does not drop through....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bright-Mi...hash=item2cb7b028f2:m:mvpi2WuLT12rLpohlGB2jNQ

£2.90 for 200mm of 5mm round bar

this is the stuff that you want

Silver steel is ground to exactly 5mm where as steel bar is roughly 5mm typically 5.1mm to 4.9mm where as silver steel will be 5.01mm to 4.99mm and is also much tougher and therefore will remain straight

cheers,

Thanks all.

Depronman - I’ve ordered as you recommended. Looks perfect and I’ll have enough for a few if I mess up.

I had used a drill bit but mine were all of a length that the twisting part of the shaft was in the hole so there was a bit of wobble from the irregular shape.

This will be much better!

Yay!
