Has anyone blanked their EGR

The EGR on the 1.6 FSI is required for the engine to run for longer periods in "Stratisfied Mode" by reducing the Exhaust Gas Temperatures to slow the build up of Nox.

I would imagine you'll get a P0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System: Insufficient Flow Detected which will in turn prevent the "Stratisfied Mode"

At least thats my understanding!

That's interesting, my FSI's EGR is blocked off, has been since I bought the car, but I haven't had the P0401 code. Granted the block was leaking and I was getting an air leak code. I've since re sealed the block so maybe I'll now see an EGR code.. :/

Interesting, I'll be removing and cleaning my EGR if my P0401 code pops up again. I wonder if it does not detect flow but if the valve is opening / closing correctly? (As I can't find a sensor for flow, only a potentiometer!?)

According to the self study documents it compares pressure in the inlet manifold to the mass flow meter to determine how much exhaust gas has entered the system when the EGR is active. I think there's a separate error code for the valve not reaching its intended set point too. I've read a few members finding that out when blanking off the EGR with a flat plate which prevents the valve from fully opening. It'd be interesting to hear from someone whose had theirs blanked off successfully for a while with no fault codes.

Good info there, perhaps you could drill a 2mm or so hole in the blanking plate , and if placed manifold end it would allow a small escape of exhaust gasses but significantly reduce the carbon / gunk going through number 4 cylinder

Just seen this thread. I blanked off my 1.6FSI almost two years ago( tread is in here somewhere). I have not had any P codes come up other than intermittent misfire which is what I had before and was trying to correct. For the second time the 1.6 passed MOT with a clean bill of health and emissions all good. The 1.6 gets a lot of varied driving, motorway for hours, and around town as well.

I'm on three days now and no engine warning light (touch wood!). Did you fix your intermittent misfire in the end? I had that code before fixing the vacuum leak, a set of coils are on the way as I think I can still feel the misfire/slight roughness and some rev fluctuation at idle. Throttle body has been cleaned.
