Hi All,

Has anyone fitted these 15" BBS Alloys to there A2?
I believe they were fitted to the early 90's VW Passat.

Also the ones I am considering have 205 / 50 / 15 tyres on them, will they be ok on a standard height SE?

Cheers

The 15" OEM tyre size is 175/60, which are a taller sidewall than 185/50. (185/50 is the OEM size for 16" rims and the two OEM combinations work out exactly equal in rolling radius). 205/50 is about 0.8% smaller than 175/60 on 15" so as near a match as makes no odds.

They will fit but 205 tyres are on the 'bit too wide' side for 6J rims

ETRTO give a rim width range of 5.5J to 7.5J for the 205/50R15 tyre size, so 205/50R15 fitted to a 6J rim is hardly pushing the limits. Compared to fitting this tyre size to a 6.5J rim, fitting this tyre size to a 6J rim would provide better protection from kerbing damage and a better ride. However, steering response would be slightly better with a slightly wider 6.5J rim.

Mercedes used to fit 195/50R15 tyres to 5.5J rims on their first generation A-Class (1997-2004) where the rim is relatively even narrower. It would be like fitting a 205/50R15 to a 5.75J rim if they made rims in 0.25" increments (which they don't).

The early Audi A1 used 6.5Jx15 ET34 5/100 57.1 rims that would fit the Audi A2.

205/50R15 and 205/55R15 are rare and expensive tyre sizes. 195/60R14 fitted to a 6Jx14 ET38 rim might be better. More comfort, plenty of grip, lower tyre prices, less drag, more mpg, and less road noise.

With the 6Jx15 ET35 rim, maybe use a 185/60R15 tyre size.

If the Audi A2 had smaller 239mm front discs, 185/70R13 could have been an option.

The small diameter 239x18mm front discs were fitted to the lowest power VW Polo MK4 1.2 petrol 54HP models, which had the same 200x40mm rear drum brakes as the Audi A2 75HP models use.

185/70 4.5-5.5-6.0
195/60 5.5-6.0-7.0
205/50 5.5-6.5-7.5

In testing, Mercedes would have found that fitting the 195/50R15 tyre size to narrow 5.5J rims gave a comfort advantage compared to the more usual 6J and 6.5J fitment for this tyre size.

An A2 on 13 or 14 inch wheels doesn't bare thinking about. I understand the call for function over form in some cases, but it would look like a rollerstake.

That's blown it......Rollerskate wheels were going to be someone's next recommendation 😂

The recommendation to use 185/60 15 tyres on 6j et35 wheels, (although completely contradictory to his quote of and response to my post) is a good one and what I would use (hence my original post).

As for aaalllll the rest, make of it what you will 🙄👍

The Ford Sierra Cosworth 204PS used 205/50R15. The 2.8i XR4 150PS used 195/60R14. The 2.0i 116PS used 185/70R13. Nowadays, these cars are worth a small fortune. I doubt many owners will want to spoil the look by fitting modern rubber bands.

This is getting quite ridiculous now!

In case you didn't realise, this is an Audi A2 forum not one for a Ford Sierra (or any other type of car you continue to pointlessly reference) and I'm quite sure the Sierra Cosworth didn't have 6J rims wearing it's 205/50 15 tyres any way!

Edit. The Sierra Cosworth wheels were 7J btw confirming what I said in my original post when trying to help the OP, stating that 205/50 15 tyres are on the 'bit too wide side' for 6J wheels which I stand by and is correct!

Thank you and goodnight 🥱😂
