Hello from Portugal!

I tried yesterday to take off the CV shaft but my 36mm socket was not 12 point, ordered one, will try again friday. I am very afraid that i wont be able to disconnect the CV shaft from where it connects to the brake disk, due to the ammount of thread locker it supposedly gets.. Am afraid i will have to visit a mechanic for the first time in a while lol.

I have to drive the car with the CV boot on that state for a few days atleast :( Theres this clunk sound/feel when coming on/off throttle when done abruptly, i wonder if the joint could be bad? I have another car who suffers from this but a lot worse, i always thought it was just the clutch, but am wondering if its the CV joints bitting the dust (the other car has about 370k kms)

since i had my hands on the car, i took out the egr valve, cleaned it and replaced the gaskets, hopefully no more oil leaks!
Also the new oil dipstick arrived today, it seems its a couple milimiters above the max, is it worth siphoning a bit out just to be within the right parameter?

as long you are not burning tyres on start and you dont drift....it will be fine, had to buy 12 point socket myself recently, just leave nut on and knock via wood or something and it would realese from hub ive just pushed mine out with fingers..was greased up

Hello all! I need a little bit of help. While removing the drivers side lock module(LHD) this part came off and i have no idea where from.. any guesses?

Hello,

It's part of the mechanism that secures the lock barrel in position by the outer door handle. I suspect that it can only be put back into position by taking the exterior handle out of the door. However, as long as you are not planning on removing the lock barrel, everything will continue to work as intended.

Cheers,

Tom

Hello and thank you Timmus.

I did remove the lock barrel, as i thought it was necessary (as it is for removing the rear mechanisms). I will try to find a parts diagram of the handle and barrel mechanisms to see where it goes!

Is it part of the #10 piece @timmus ?
I don’t know for sure, because it has been some years since I looked, but I’m inclined to agree with you that it’s a component of Part 10.

Cheers,

Tom

Well even with that pic i couldnt get it into place :| The good news is everything else seemed to work properly without that part!

@neo 's on the left and mine on the right, there was just no space to put this little piece the same way as in your pic!

I might as well turn this into an update, i replaced the drivers door open/close sensor with one from aliexpress, had to grind the metal clip a bit so it would fit the new (a bit taller) part. thats 2 out of 4 doors that can recognize as open now! had to remove the window frame to get to it which was a pain.

I also put a new drivers side window switch with the help of this great youtuber:
, and gave the plastic finish a good scrubbing with a bunch of degreasers to remove the old paint. Also replaced the fuel flap button with one i got locally for cheap.

In another thread i posted this, but i removed the engine side driveshaft (and hub) in order to replace the inner cv boot, which itself was another major pain in the butt. (and i kinda have to the the transmission side, the boot is worn down, maybe after the winter lol).

I did a pretty big order from autodoc with quite a few things to replace next.. g263 AC sensor, drum brake kit, parking brake cables and some other things i dont remember.. Oh and i cut up the tip of a water bottle to do the same as this bonnet funnel lol:

I also fixed the lighter with an ebay generic (albeit with some cutting and wiring), and together with a used xiaomi lighter/FM emissor i can have bluetooth with my music running on the radio for cheap!

Oh and i almost forgot, i bought the 3 "alternative" polo mounts, replaced the rubbers and put em in

Just filled her up and it did 4.5L/100km, which is pretty good for some traffic intensive driving with a thermostat (not original) that takes a while to reach and stay at 90! My "main" car, and my familys car has gone for some repairs and my familys car has broken down for a bit, so the little A2 has been quite busy :)

Next steps are to replace all the new parts i mentioned before from autodoc, respraying a bunch of worn buttons and fixing the sagging headliner! Also if possible trying to fix the EGR oil leak issue that seems to be common and ive read some people pointing at a bad turbo.. one thing at a time i guess.

Dunno if i shouldve made a "build" thread, but using this for it now

I am very intimate with that piece due to the recent drama I went through with my locks. :)
It is important only if you are planning to remove the outer handle. If you remove the handle without that plastic clip in place you won't be able to put it back, although I managed it by using a piece of rope. to keep the lever under tension while putting the handle back in place. If you are only removing the lock barrel there are no issues, just be careful that your outer handle doesn't pop out while the lock barrel is out or you will be in the world of pain.

The clip can be snapped back in place, but if it is not in the correct position and you are not careful when pushing the handle back in it will pop right off, usually disappearing in the door frame never to be found again.

Very bad piece of overengineering.

Hey! I believe you are talking about a different pin, the one you mention is #4 in this diagram, which holds the metal bracket in the previous pic. The pin i got out that i have no idea where it goes back in is quite a bit smaller and apparently is part of #10 in the diagram further below.
Having that said, it was quite a pain to put back in with the window frame on, it was way easier with the whole thing out!

No, it's that little plastic tooth, I lost it twice, it is impossible to put back without the frame off, 5 minutes later it went flying again but this time fell down in the door frame and there was no way to find it in there. :) Anyway, not important unless you remove the handle, in that case it would be difficult to put the handle back in without removing the door card and the aluminium cover, but not impossible with some creative thinking. :)

This is the thread where I had to deal with it with my unique problem with the lock cylinder:
