Hi Guys

Just bought my first pre-loved A2 and i am smitten. Its only a late 2004 1.4 TDI 75 S but i love her :) especially as she only has 34 ish 0000 on the clock and immaculate to boot. I'm still coming to grips with the knobs and buttons but i'll get there thanks to the great FAQ section. Just one quick question the S model doesn't have a computer to tell you how many miles you get to the Gallon does it ? The console only registers the outside temp so far as i can see.

Regards
Les.

Welcome to the forum. And also a warm welcome being a felllow Ayrshire owner; there's not many of us around these parts! We had a member in Coylton but he sold his A2. You'll probably see a few around the roads now that you have one. Ours is black and the Mrs works at Crosshouse. Embarrass her and give a wave! :)

Thats a very low mileage TDi which makes it a relative rarity; where did you pick it up?

Its likely to be a base model. S wasn't sold in the UK. Around town you should get around 50 mpg on short runs, rising to 60-65 on a long journey depending on your driving style and load.

There are owners achieving mpg's in the 70's but this is normally combined with some modifications like remapping, different wheels/tyres, longer 5th gear and aerodynamic tweaks. There's lots of chatter on here about economy. Try using the search function, have a go at searching titles only and 'real life mpg'

Enjoy.

Welcome. A new owner myself - question is where are my posts from yesterday and the evening before? They apparently went for moderation...

Hi and welcome to the A2oc and A2 ownership. It sounds like you have got a great example there.

Am in the same boat as you, a late 04 tdi. The trip computer was a optional extra for most models. I don't have it as well. But I use fulley to track my fuel consumption as a few members here. Some members have fitted diss to there cars. It's a lot of work changing instrument cluster and all it entails, but it is posible.

Have you seen this thread? http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?4309-Buying-and-owning-an-A2

Loads of great tips and info there.

Cheers

David

I got my little baby at Scott Baillie cars in Glasgow priced over the odds as usual, a ball hair off £6000 but my wife and i fell in love. The family travel up and down to Glasgow every weekday for work and school so we thought it would be great for the commute. i was looking forward to having a trip computer to help with the MPG but i'll use Riverlad's kind suggestion of "Fuelly" :) The wee car never came with a boot cover but a dog guard...looool, so i'm cheekily going to give the previous owner a wee call to see if she has it squirreled away in a cupboard somewhere. My ownly gripe is the no spare wheel, but i'll pick one up somewhere, is there a specific model or is there a more generic type ? We passed by Arnold Clark on western Rd Kilmarnock only to see a 2001 A2 model same colour as ours. It was the receptionists :) Murdo, where do you get your servicing done ? And yes i'll give your wife a wee wave when we pass :) lastly what do you guys suggest for second key and fob. We only got one from the dealer.

Think i'm going to love it here. Pity i missed the Strathconon games :-(

Bit of swerve there; (which is fine) I'll look on the mods control panel and check the posts. These arent flagged up for moderation, you need to check the section regularly to see if theres anything there. I believe theres a number of reasons a post is sent for moderation, picture attachments is an example I think. (Edit: now moderated and posted)

Back on thead - yes Les , I saw the Scott Baillie car. I was up there looking for a car for my dad recently ( A2 wasnt in stock then) Is it a local car registered in Scotland?

Any 5 X 100 PCD wheel from the VAG group will do as a spare wheel. You get the odd spacesaver on eBay, and the even more infrequent genuine A2 collapsible one comes up, but that normally goes from £80 - £120 mark. I think a few members on here will have a 'saved search' so you'll need to be quick if one appears for sale!

Another idea is to buy a used 15" A2 alloy like the style on your car which are quite cheap on the Bay, but that takes up more space. Do you have a false floor? ( its a folding upper floor area at sill level with a compartment underneath.

Hi Murdo
i don't have the full log book from DVLA yet so i cant see where it was first registered. I know it had 2 previous owners and looking at the service book it it was stamped "Edinburgh Audi" for its first service in 07. Any suggestions for second key and fob ? Its always nice when your wife loses them all the time and you want to maker her think its really her car and not mine...hahahahahaha. The only space i see is where the battery and towing tools are.

I use garnock mot centre in kilbirnie. Owner is a friend and they take good care of ADA for us. You have a few vag specialists nearby. Is hood motors still on the go? They always had a good rep. Sarge or skipton on here can programme a second key for you. A private message is best to set the ball rolling. You need to buy a key with a specific code I think, they are available on eBay. The blade can be cut by your local key cutting place. This is a cheaper option than dealer price, but not sure if the specific process. As said, sarge786 or skipton01 are the gurus.
