Interior light LED

I've got a couple of the interior light LED sets plus the door pull LEDs coming.

As I have OpenSky, there won't be enough room to fit the LED bar in the normal place, so I've got two so that I can run them either side of the OpenSky button.

Cheers,

Mike

Hey Mike, which door pull LEDs have you got? Is it a strip type that sticks to the inside of the handle or one that fits to the bottom of the door trim? I saw my friend's new 330i, which has chunky door handle that incorporates a bright led shinning downwards when interior lights come up and it was so useful in a dark carpark. But the A2 has a very thin handle and don't have enough space for something like that.

Yes, will do - tempted actually as the red glow will make the inside of Tank look like a submarine at action stations!

DOWN PERISCOPES !!!

Carl, you're a nutter!

I can assure you though, that with the Milltek on, it won't be silent running!

Hi Humps
Thanks for the inof on led's. From all the other mails, it sounds like the roof mount lights are not intrusive while still being bright enough to illuminate all the controls etc. Mike's on the case (sigh of relief from everyone) se we will all benefit from his expertise on how and where to install them.
On that note, have you got a date for the Koni FSD install ?

Cheers Spike

My interior LED lights arrived yesterday and first impressions are not that good.

The angle of the interior light panel means that the LEDs are shining towards the handbrake area and not to the gearstick/instruments area.

Also, I have 4 LEDs (2 pairs) and the light isn't that strong - probably due to the increased cabin height in the A2, compared to the A3 and A4, which have their instruments and gearstick higher up (the central tunnel is about 6 inches higher).

I will actually do the installation, but a set of Luxeon K2s may be needed.

Cheers,

Mike

BTW: K2s are overkill, big time. 4500mcd should be more than enough.

I really like the lighting on the wing mirrors! I found it so useful since I came out of a fully loaded E90 3-series in a tight dark carpark. Are your lights the strips of 'door handle LEDs' sold on the internet or a custom fit job? And the lights at the tailgate trim, good idea too, I can see some use for them.

I get to fly regularly these days because of work and the tailgate LEDs are really helpful. They're great when it's dark at home or in the murky multi-storey at Helsinki.

My Under-Mirror lights got upgraded not-so-long-ago to Lumileds, but they weren't protected adequately against the elements so disintegrated. I've replaced them and will hopefully get round to finishing the wiring off later this week. I was going to put some amber emitters in too for "one-off" indicators - i don't actually like mirror indicators, i've driven golfs with them and find them distracting, but at the summer house I can see the mirror and not the other lights and want to know that the car's locked.
There are now also Lumis in the bottom of all four doors, 5mm LEDs in the doorpockets, one behind each door opener, 2 5mm white LEDs in each footwell, the vents are illuminated and so is the space in front of the gearstick. I'll do some pics when I'm done, hopefully this week.

Next up is a reading light in the back for my daughter and some thoughts about SMD RGB LEDs :)

Everything's custom.
