Just another girl..A2

Hi Saumart,
yes I stayed in Donelaicio.
It was interesting to see Romanov, who owned a Football club here in shop windows and the papers.

We watched the basketball In the square and used to goto Barbaras.
Is the Church renovation finished?

I have some pictures of A2's in Kaunas somewhere.

oh, I see You remember some things quite well, that is very nice :) I hope you have good memories from Kaunas :)
I'm living in centre also, near the bridge to the island of Nemunas river:)

Romanov is now hiding somewhere in Russia. He bankrupted his own bank and can't go back to Lithuania. I don't know if he still has a footbal team in Scotland, Hearts as I remember ? But he lost his basketball team in Lithuania also. That is what we know about him..he was very weird guy :))

What church are you talking about? I don't remember any renovations..but assuming You know Romanov it was quite a while :)

Hi, guys,

need some help: recently I changed both low beam bulbs, I took out the whole unit and replaced them,then took to the garage to get my lights tested and adjusted. After that I noticed, that high beam on the passenger side is clearly pointing downwards and whole beam is on the road, not like in the drivers side. I haven't touched that bulb..maybe when I was changing and by accident, it might be the cause? I will go to check if the bulb is in place as soon as I have a spare minute and it will be light enough outside. But maybe somebody had same experience ?

And it is quite weird when you got both your bulbs gone at the same time :)

I did this the other day, I must have knocked the bulb and put it out of alignment.

I spent a couple of minutes seating it properly and then I had perfect light pattern again.

Surely you can take it back to whoever adjusted them

as mentioned it is easy to move the main beam bulb out of position.

Steve B

Evening gentlemen, so the problem was the low beam bulb. As soon as I put it back to the position, after few up/up adjustments in front of a wall it is working as it should be! The high beam bulb was sitting in its position. That is significance difference only depending of bulb position in light patern. Never realised it is so big:) little fellow good to go:)

hey there, nothing much to say: little beast is doing it's job. Will search for a new battery if the temperature is going to be low, because mine is 12 years old..so it, has lost some of its capacity :)
And...Winter came to us today :)

... just like the other side of the Baltic :)

You should come over and say hello at some point. For batteries, I've had some good experience with a Bosch S4, but they're very similar to one another.

You're from Finland? :) I know that we say your country name correctly: Suomija :) like You say: Suomi :)

Actually I did some research and I was looking to Bosch S4. I don't understand why Bosch site recommends top line S5 while S4 I think is more rational suggestion to car as A2:) which model do you have? S4 008 (278x175x190) or S4 010 (315x175x175 these are similar dimensions to OEM battery) because I found that both height numbers 175 and 190 are offered, but how it is in real world? :)

I'm not from here, I just live here and have done since 2004. Almost too long.. but at least the guys get to come over and experience it with tracktime, which is always awesome. Lakes are already starting to freeze up north and that's a good thing because without a frozen lake we won't have a track.

I think it's the 008, 70Ah or so, in fact I'm pretty sure it is. I was considering a 100Ah at one point and that's 315 long; that won't fit without "adjustment". The 74 has survived pretty well, to be honest, and I think it's about due for replacement. I was considering a Banner, as that's the only other easily-available and reliable brand (I could ask the guys to bring a Moll from Germany but there are a couple of horror stories around those, so I'll stick with reliability, thanks).

for your information: the pricing here is around €110.

Oh, I understand now:) I've read something about icetrack days event in Finland somewhere here:) that was interesting to read!

I guess you have 1.4 petrol, so does it have a smaller battery bay? Because now I have 8z0 105 915d mounted. Which size according what I found online is 315x175x175. So shorter will be ok in any case. I can get s4 008 for 89€.
Cheers :)

The weather is warm here, so had no urge to replace my battery yet.

But there were some things done:
  • gearbox change to a used one;
  • clutch set replaced;
  • cam belt change;
  • air hose in front of a turbo was cracked so it was changed also;

So far need to do a wheel alignment.

Hope this will be a long term repair and the beast is going to serve more kms :)

Hi Saulius

Always good to read your progress in restoring your A2.

But there were some things done:
  • gearbox change to a used one;
  • clutch set replaced;
  • cam belt change;
  • air hose in front of a turbo was cracked so it was changed also;

That's quite a bit of work to get done in a day :)

Hello,

Got some new toy for my a2 - a old vag com 409.1 cable, so trying to see what is happening there :)
Made an autoscan, maybe somebody could comment on errors I've got? Some was deleted successfully, but e.g. the one with radio is coming over and over. I have aftermarket stereo.
Tried to enable feature of self locking doors, but didn't get the value to change. Mine is 06720, while I found in the forum it should be 06906 for self locking doors. Or not? I'd be very thankful for this!
But turned on a seatbelt reminder, so the cable works :)

Also got some little annoying crunch when turning steering wheel. That happens when you turn slightly from straight wheels - no more than quarter of turn despite the side. Like something is rusted, that kind of feeling. Checked a power steering fluid level ant topped up. Still the same :/ What could it be? I've changed, literally 1 year ago, both upper suspension strut mounts. SKF bearings and Boge rubbers.

Hi the radio error I'm sure will be because you have a non standard radio.i can't help with the code for the door locking but i would say you noise on turning the wheel is seized top mount(s) on the strut tops. Careful as this can lead to the spring(s) breaking. cheers mike

The door may well have a faulty microswitch, please check the posts on here to se what your options are.

Steve B

Thanks for responses :) I'll check if these will be a upper mounts for struts. Are they common problem to A2 ?

Steve, door error was deleted successfully. But there are times when I unlock the car and turn ignition on, one of the doors unlocks (must be those mentioned in error). And that happens without any pattern, one day locks, one day not. I've seen something about microswitch problems, but didn't pay attention about that. Now must read. :)
