led lights resembling R8, S5 etc

I don't have a picture with the whole thing unpacked, but as you can see in these horribly miss-focused pictures, the cylinder shaped parking light shroud needs to have a little cut in the apollo shroud in order to fit correctly. To get the desired cut, i've used a hefty nail clipper to chomp off the required amount after cutting the edges with a hobby knife. 20130301_171159.jpg20130301_171212.jpg
It's not a tricky thing to do, you'll get the idea on how much you need to "shave" once you try to test fit everything before sealing the headlight back up.
In the first picture i've marked with green the points where you have to make the incision (the red trail is the apollo shroud contour) and in the second picture you can see the two circular shapes of the 2 shrouds merging. Ideally, the cut should be circular resembling the parking shroud, mine is cut square like this |___| but you can't actually see the shape mismatch ")]" because it's such a small cut.

That parking light .... I will soon do a major rebuild of a spare pair of headlights. I will incorporate DRL's that also double-up as side-indicators.I am impressed with your project and I will almost certainly incorporate those Morimoto Mini H1's, too! Now, I am minded to relocate that parking light to an upper position using "Bondloc" plastic weld. This then allows the DRL'S to be uninterrupted and full-width. Did you not consider moving your parking light? Luckily, with having a spare pair of headlights, there is no urgency to this project, and I can then ensure that I do the work to a good standard .... I cannot see why the parking light would not be satisfactory and functional if it is moved ~10 cm vertically? Why did you paint those internal lower reflector sections matt black?

In previous iterations, i've also used a DRL-type led strip in the headlights, because it's a simple DIY job and seemed like a good idea. Foto0066.jpgFoto0072.jpg
The only problem is that those strips were attracting all kinds of attention from my friendly law enforcement agents, so after my first warning of having the car's ID withheld, i've decided to let them go. I guess a more professional looking set like the ones used by Mike would be less conspicuous, but i've found it hard to find a snug fitting one that would not interfere with the light dispersal of the reflectors by coming into their line of sight...although come to think about it, after fitting the new projectors this will no longer be an issue (for low beams at least).
Anyway, i've just received my Philips w5w LED sidelight set of which i'm pretty happy, so i'll be sticking to them for now. And besides, when re-assembling the headlights, i've replaced the old rubber strip that used to handle the sealing with a special sealing gunk strip that adheres to surfaces, and i bet it's a doozie to remove it in case i need to access them again. :)
Regarding the matte black finish for those plastic sections, i think the darker headlights go better with my black car. I guess it's just a personal preference, now they look a bit more in tune with the more recent design language for projector equipped headlights.

Why did the boys in blue take exception to your DRL's ?

Well they stopped me for driving without the dipped beam on, a legal requirement for Roumania (the DRL thing is not yet regulated in my country, so even if i run them i still risk a ticket if the dipped beams are off). This allowed them to focus their attention on the well lit LED's in my headlights (plus tinted windows and different size tires as the ones in the car's ID).
I guess they let it slide because it was a beautiful sunny day and everyone in the car had their seatbelts on, plus i wasn't out robbing a bank or road racing. :)

Ah, never noticed where you are from, apologies, thought this was something new here that they were cracking down on!
