Looking for a brand new headlamp switch? Less than £12 ???

I did say that above Cammy !!! LOL

"Yes the inner centre of the switch is recessed when compared to the old switch but it still looks fine to me."
It is fully located but the switch is just a sl
ightly different design.. I actually think that unless you compare them side by side you probably wouldn't really spot the difference (I can't remember what the original one looked like until I compared them.

Sorry i must have misread that part.

Surely there must be a way to get the switch fully flushed against the switch cover fascia

You can't, it is fuly engaged in all of the mountings. I don't know why it would bother anyone, it is just that it is designed to be that way, it is not misaligned or anything, just a different design.

Hmm...

i'm thinking, what if you remove the internal from the new switch and plant them into the old existing switch housing and then use then use the front facia & turning knob thing from the new switch.....

It is the "turning knob thing" that is designed with that recess in it.

But if you were able to strip down the new switch and put the old knob on the new switch, that might work? But if the old one was badly worn you would be back to square one.

But if your old knob was not worn and the switch or illumination has failed then it might be an option.(I am 63 and so I know about these things, worn knobs that is).

But I have never been able to remove the knob from the rest of the mechanismmechanism whenever I have tried, perhaps it needs a bit more force.

But this was just meant to be a VERY cheap option if someone just wants a perfectly working brand new switch that is fully fitted but just looks a little different.

Wow just realised that is more buts than a nudist colony.

Finally in. A little bit of use with the Dremmel to cut away the excess bezel on the existing shroud. Inserted a chrome ring of the correct size to finish the edge of the shroud. Added a plastic ring to the inside of the chrome ring to add extra support for the new switch and improve the finish.
Many thanks to A2sumo for the help and guidance.

Hi James

it looks great but this thread involves a straight swap with no cutting involved.
But I agree that it looks a LOT better with "Sumo's chrome addition"

i just wanted to clarify that to fit the £12 headlamp switch in this thread requires no cutting or internal support, it is a simple swap with no need for modifications or tools at all.

But they could, of course do the same as you have done and have a great looking set up.

Sadly it wasn't just the switch that was missing soft touch on mine. The logo part was badly worn. Hence I modded the shroud to fit the whole new switch. Bit of a specialist mod I agree. But a fantastic improvement when you're not a lover of soft touch.

I thought I would update this thread.

I spotted another headlamp switch at around the same money but from the UK.
It looked more like the style of A2 switch as you can see

The rear connector looked identical

So I ordered one to see if it was a better option.
It arrived quickly (since it came from the UK)
It fitted very easily (10 minute job)

BUT !!!!! Unfortunately the internal wiring must be different (or a fault in the switch).

The headlights came on and stayed on in any position (Off, Side, Main).

So it looks like it is not an option after all, which is a pity.

The item I bought was

So don't make the same mistake !!!

Steve,

Can the switch knob and surround be swapped to the existing switch? :p

Regards,

Matt.

Hi Matt

I don't know how to remove the knob, I have tried in the past but it always felt like I was about to break something.

The surround is separate as with the "Chinese" switch and so cannot be used.

Steve B

Ah, I understand. Thanks for letting us know! :)

Regards,

Matt.

I have seen, "so called" repair kits that include the knob and surround and so they must be easy enough to remove, but I don't know how.

So, that's in other words a switch for a Nordic car, where we by law keep headlights on during any time of day. Perhaps it can be modified? I remember another Swedish guy (luzt?) writing about modifying the auto headlights switch to work in Sweden. Check that thread.

I know this post is over a year old... But can you remember where you got the chrome ring and plastic insert from?
What size? That looks really nice.
I've ordered a new switch from China already just waiting for delivery
