Most irritating thing on your A2? Inside or out?

Not much wrong with the driving experience or general ambience - and lots of likeable design details...

BUT:

1. Service flap release only works occasionally (despite two dealer visits) discouraging any form of routine maintenance.
2. Windscreen washer empty "bong" wakes the dead (and necessitates the usual struggle with the service flap).
3. Dipstick serves no discernible function (it certainly doesn't give any idea of the oil level!)
4. Load carrying potential is compromised by the poor design of the rear seat folding / removal mechanism - not to mention the bizarre false floor arrangement in the boot. Check out the Merc A-class to see how it can be done so much better - in an even smaller car.
5. Local dealership obviously trained in the Dixons academy of product knowledge and customer service...

Jpope,

I can solve the first point. On the service flap there is a catch, undo the screw and slide the catch out a bit, tighten the screw.. In addition to this you can spray oil (WD40) on to the release pin (the bit the catch clips to).
Points 2-4 are individual preference (I like the false floor) See link below.
as to point 5, ask to speak to a technician

Hello Jpope and Hollyrescue.
It obviously depends on the individual, but for me the boot design is great. The false section holds all my junk out of the way, and when I open the rear door the "real" boot is lovely and empty!, and at the right height for my back.
Your fears about the dipstick are a bit worrying. Mine works like other dipsticks- so is it unreliable?
Regards JohnW. 2002 TDI SE.

Well I certainly agree with point 3, even the technicians agree that it is c***

But about 20 of them together make a very nice up-light... anyone saw it at the Audi Forum in London? All orange and wavy...

I really like the suspended floor (SE) in the boot, especially when I have to take the trip to Tescos. You can layer one lot of shopping in the lower floor and one lot in the upper floor. You can also hide all your gubbins like blanket, atlas, etc. in the lower section and leave the upper area empty (neat).

Hi

Most irritating thing on my A2?

* Rear seats are fixed. Just become a Father of our little son. It would be nice if the rear seats could be taken out.
* Little Fuel tank. Only 21 liter.
* Too big A-pillar
* The start/stop funcion also works when the carengine i cold! I prefer to disable the start/stop funcion to the engine is hot.
* The car turns cornors like a big train = it dosnt turn very good.
* The wheels are too narrow
* No Servo steering
* The color of the seats: Light Gray.
* No Aircon
* Not possible to add Speed pilot (1,2 tdi)
* The remotecontrol is not integrated in the key, but a additional remote in the keyring.
* Impossible to set the parking watch from driving side, as it is placed in the right side. Have to go to the other side of the car to set the parking watch. Need: Longer arms ;)
* The lights in the clovescompartment only works when the engine is running. Like I newer need anything in the dark, when the key is pulled out ;)
* The black color. I will newer bye a black car again.

But I realy like my car. It's wounderful.

Jesper did you go for the rear bench seat option then? Because on 4 seat A2s the seats in the back all can be taken out... On the bigger models the remote lock is part of the flip key as well...

...and the glove box light is one irritant I forgot about! You don't need the key, you can just switch the main lights on and it will work as well... but anoying either way I agree...

I had a dark blue car once and also said NEVER again... apart from having to clean it ALL the time the base coat is also white... thus all skratches show up as a white line on your dark paintwork!

Is it me ? Has no one bumped their head on the grab handle when driving ? The fact that there is one above the drivers door is unnecessary, but also the design is poor in that it is rigid and protrudes rather than hinged with springs so that it lies flat.

Funny, but mine doesn't have the handle...

I've noted before that some petrol a2's and some older diesels do have ot, but in my 2002 1.4tdi there's no grab handle on the drivers side.

Don't have that problem: It is not pressent on the "how-to-save-weight-model" (1,2 TDI). I mean how much does these weight?

No - In Denmark the almost-only-Audi-a2 sold is the 1,2 tdi because it's a 3l/100km car an therfore (much) cheaper than the 1,4 petrol and 1,4 TDI engine.
In oder to save weigth (and diesel) so it remains a 3l car, you can not buy any factorymounted weight-things. If the car is mounted with heavy re***ats, aircon, electrical rearwindows or other equitment the car is no longer a 3l car, and the price increase dramaticly (8000 euros!!!!).
The buttom line: I did not "forget" it. It's simply not possible to buy the car with extras.

Something that Ive only just noticed (being a fine day and all) the noise that comes from the rear windows when open a bit, throught I had a helicopter above me.

OK I know Ive had the A2 for over 6 months but its the first time the rear windows have been open when moving.

Mmm. Agreed, fine day and all shows some new niggles. The aircon smells bad in hot weather, but has been fine all winter (I run it all year round). Never had this in 5 years of motoring with my A4, but a real 'drainy' smell in the A2 when it's been left in the sun all day.
