New A2 TDI Owner

To start the new year off and to prepare for the mot I replaced the ARB droplinks and tie rod ends with some rather nice Meyle HD stuff due to the usual rubber boots being tired. It then failed the mot because the ball joint covers were split. Bother. I should of noticed these. Anyway new dust covers, new rear brake drum cylinders, shoes and a bit of brake bleeding (binding rears were an advisory, and on inspection needed replacing) it's now passed its mot with flying colours.

Went and collected a set of A3 pepperpots today. 150miles round trip and averaged 72mpg. Not to bad. Got the wheels home and after cleaning what had to be 10+ years of brake dust off and other muck, underneath they're brilliant. Planning on running the pepper pots permanently for the increased comfort and any potential mpg gains they may have. Does anybody know what difference if at all they will have?

They will make some difference because of the reduced weight of the wheels, but I doubt if it will be noticeable, there are so many other variables.

But several people have them and are very happy!

Thanks for the reply,
Its a bit of an experiment really, they were £30 so had to give it a go.
I'm not expecting to see a noticeable mpg difference everyday. But recently have been getting very similar mpg for the same 300mile journey so will be interested to see if the average will increase ever so slightly.

within 1mm if I remember correctly, which is "perfectly OK" in UK terms and not in German ones <shrug>

Actually, it was the 7 spokes which have 1 mm difference between the A2 and A3 versions. So these are completely OK - 6x15 ET38.

So 25k miles later and the A2 is still going strong. Averaging 67mpg at the moment with 76 on a trip being the best so far.
In the past month I've been busy with Pepperpots on, Leather seats in and a newly acquired rear cup holder (wrong colour though). I believe they can be sprayed but perhaps there is someone out there who wants beige and has black?! Also I have one of the metal brackets (8Z0 864 455) for the rear mount. Is it true that these aren't anymore available?
