New arrival..

Thanks Mac, I've done that and still got a few fault codes:

013200 Climatic control module
01560 Front passenger door
01561 Left rear door
01562 Right rear door

Not sure the significance of these, but I have ordered my VCDS cable so should be able to do a better scan later in the week.

If the Q CCU is faulty, which seems quite likely, I would rather get it repaired, as the other one is from my other A2, which for the most part is still entirely functional.

I might have a Q cccu available in a couple of days, if I can get my AF working. I’ll drop you a PM on about Tuesday/Wednesday even if you want to have it for a while for testing.

I've been reading anything I can find about CCCU's and came across this:

The AF CCCU will be plug and play in your car. Most sellers will sell you the cccu and a matching fob. All you need to do is fit the replacement cccu and swap the bottom half of your key fob over. It can be recoded to the cccu by holding the unlock button with the ignition on for 10 seconds.

So I swapped the bottom of the fob over and did the ten second thing, then paired the key and it worked. I now have remote central locking with the AF CCCU, so that's good progress. But I'm still getting the fault codes as before.

That's a very kind offer thanks Matt. Good luck with your AF!

I got in touch with Timmus this morning, and he confirmed my old CCCU is faulty, so I am organising an exchange with key fobs to solve those problems.

It looks like the persistent fault codes are indeed separate hardware faults though, so once I have got a good CCU and matching key fobs I will get on and see what is going on with those.

Hopefully I will have VCDS Lite working later in the week, so that should be a boon as well.

I see you have 2 A2 cars now. You'll need to buy a third as a doner to sacrifice its parts for the good of the fleet.
EDIT.....
And that will be your new hobby at full steam.

:) 👍

I seem to have become a home to cars with "issues"

A couple of years ago, me and the wife made the decision to just have one car, which basically means she has a car and I have a bicycle

I have had a Land Rover series 3 with Rover V8 fitted for some time now, but I don't really count that as a car as it doesn't have a roof and I wouldn't want to go very far in it for various reasons.

Then in the last few weeks I took on my sisters A2 as a project, and another A2 arrived out of the blue, and I also bought a neighbours Citroen C1 that they were going to scrap, so I have all those cars and am still riding a bicycle!

If I can get a good deal on Classic Car insurance on the 2002 A2, then I might keep it, but I am already thinking I would like to get back to the simple life, bicycles are a lot less hassle.

That's probably way more information than you needed, but you are right, my hobby is at full steam 🤣

Thanks for the info. Made good reading and got a smile and nod as I read through.

I've had loads of life cycles (Pardon the pun) I will often have a right good clear out and say that's- that.
Slowly but surely I start to collect cars & bicyles mainly but for a while 90's radios.
It's the mark you leave on the world around you as you pass through life.
By bicycle is a grand way to travel.

Polish word for a bicycle = rower.
Pronounced, rover

Well my Gendian cable arrived today so I downloaded VCDS, installed it and got it working. It communicated with the car no problem, but I can't see how it is any more useful than my OBD scanner, it just gave the same fault codes. Do I have to register it to get it to do something exciting?

Cheers, Dave

The same thing happened to me, underwhelming.

I think in my case ...
.I haven't got a clue how to access its true power.
I think it's akin the the FORCE in Starwars

Edit
I try to use the Farce when ever possible

The Farce is definitely strong in this one.. 🥸

I'll have to do some more reading, hopefully there is some kind of manual out there somewhere.

Yes. The useful bit is Measuring Blocks. You can "see" each sensor, and best of all, log sensor readings while driving, to catch those faults that only happen in certain driving modes. I pop the laptop under my seat.
Mac.

Why aye, I've had a look at some YT tutorials, I'm starting to see what it's all about. Good stuff!

Just found the Ross-Tech Wiki page, what an amazing resource!

So more reading, more learning. I couldn't see what was wrong with the doors to bring up these fault codes, but it is the "safe" mode that is the issue. The doors don't unlock with a double pull of the internal handle, or the unlock button, they only unlock with the key fob. Not the end of the world, but not ideal either..

This is a photo of a very rare Post Box, only 2 of them in the country apparently 😲

Well I think I have made my mind up to use the grey one as a donor car, as I'm pretty sure it has everything the blue one is in need of. I will double check everything is definitely working before getting too carried away mind. I'll keep the grey one roadworthy, so that once the bluey is tip top I will be able to get the grey one to one of the forums A2 recyclers..

I could swap the gearboxes, but don't really fancy the work, and it would probably make more sense to put a better gearbox in, than swap them.. Seems like the 3rd gear crunch can be lived with and managed anyway, I'll do an oil change and check adjustment.

Well it's been a funny old day, with some successes and some "fails" as the youth say these days

I put a battery into the Grey one and it started straight up, which is great (WIN). I turned the wipers on to clear the screen and then realised I had removed them (FAIL) A mate with an A2 and a lathe and milling machine is going to try and suss how to fettle them up.

Then I put the original (good) CCCU back into the grey one, and cleared the faults on it, and tested the locks. Everything worked exactly the same as it did in the blue one, except I got no fault codes. This had me confused, but did give the possibility that the door locks on the blue one are actually okay (Huge WIN).
I came to the realisation that I didn't really know exactly how everything (Locks/Remote Central Locking) were supposed to work, so I took the drastic step of reading the owners manual (can you imagine!)

So I put the good CCCU back in the Blue Audi, and with Owners manual in hand I went through all the steps to see if everything worked as it should, and low and behold, it did (WIN). So it is showing fault codes, but working correctly. I have read Timmus saying that it is a myth that CCCU's are plug and play, so this is not massively surprising, and I can certainly live with it.

With that happy A2 progress made, I had lot's of other things I wanted to do before heavy rains arrive tomorrow, and the garden becomes a quagmire again.

IMG_20240208_133335_HDR.jpg

The C1, which I have just changed all the injector seals on, still won't start (FAIL). I'm sure it's air in the fuel system, but can't seem to purge it 😣 So I checked all the wheels were turning freely, and manually manoeuvred it to it's new parking spot.

The generator which I have just serviced and put a new timing belt on started and ran okay (WIN)

The Land Rover started without too much difficulty (WIN) and it was lovely to hear that Rover V8, even just for a short while.

The Tractor started, and the clutch wasn't stuck (WIN WIN), so I was able to move the trailer to make room for more cars.

Just as I got all that done it started trying to snow/rain, which was not forecast for here at all today (FAIL)

BLUE A2 jobs outstanding: Change rear door release cable, clean all seats, change gearbox oil, adjust gear change mechanism.

I just called Classicline Insurance, that I have my classic policy for my Land Rover with, to see if they could give me a classic vehicle quote. Unfortunately they don't consider the A2 a classic, even though my Blue one is over 20 years old.. Darn it..

Anybody had any joy with Classic Insurance on an A2?

Yes, just about an specialist vehicle broker should be able to help, I’m surprised you have experienced an issue here.

For what it’s worth, I’m with Adrian Flux / Just Kampers.
